the extra wieght slows me down and gives me worse gas mileage....if im just riding around town i dont, but if i go on a trip..like a 200 mile rd trip i would, but i havnt took my car over 30 miles away in about 6 months,but the fiinalec, never heard of it

I think more guys here carry a spare tire in the driver's seat than in the trunk.

The only time I ever carried a spare was the billings run last summer.

I got a space saver spare from a mid 80's mini S10 blazer and bottle jack, always with me. :)

If your in an emergency situation most times the foam works. But I would not recommend using it as the fix to the flat. From what I understand it ruins the tire from the inside.
I believe the safest bet is to use a spare to assure that there is no problem if you get a flat.

HAHA, o-67. some guys carry a large inner tube with them in case of a flood or river rafting . I always have a spare in the trunk

I too have a space saver from a more modern car (late 80s Caprice Estate wagon; rim was dual pattern, and it's the only one I found even close to 26 inch plus diameter).

But...

There are new cars that do not have a spare or run flat tires, just a can of fix a flat. I noticed this in an RX-8 I test drove with my brother last week. No spare, just a nice little zipper bag with the can and some other little tools and instructions on what to do.

Obviously that kind of repair would be temporary, and would only work for a small puncture type problem. A cut would let you sit. And after you get someplace to have the tire replaced or repaired, there will be a gunky mess to clean up.

I plan to use my Hagerty roadside assistance in case of a flat vice toting around a spare everytime I go out.

I also carry a space saver from a mid 80's S-10 pick up. I added the spare cover for looks.
