What backspacing and tire diameter are you guys that are running 15X3.5 or 15X4 (front) wheels running on your first gens?
I'm thinking about getting a set of light wheels for drag racing and was wondering what fits/ looks right on our first gens, pics would be cool as well.
Thanks in advance :beers:

Sean, I have absolutely no idea of what backspacing is on the skinnies on my 69, but if you can wait till the end of the day, I'll pull one off and get you some measurements.

Here are some old Centerlines I found. I know they are 15x3.5, but again, I have no idea what the spacing is.

Joe

I looked into 4" wheels for my car. But went with a 15X5 with (3.5" backspacing) since it's a street car. Plus my car is kinda nose heavy, if you know what I mean. It's also pretty low in the front. The 3.5" and 4.0" wheels I looked into were "track only" wheels. Not legal for the street use. I don't know if you are street or track but I'd go with 2.25" backspacing on a 15X4 and 1.75" on a 3.5" wheel. Hope this helps. I don't have any great shots of the front wheels.

Here's what I have handy:

I have the stock fender liners installed with no rubbing issues.

i have 15x3.5 weld pro stars with some 180/70/15 tires...there so skinny i dont think it matters what your backspacing is....and i still drive 55-60 hanging turns also, it isnt safe but i did it just to see if it would...i dont think a skinny wheel would matter on the street...its the tire size..i could have got a 15x4 or 15x6 and got a 165/75/15 and that would have been more dangrous because the tire is skinnier/not the rim

15 x 5's here with 3.5" BS also.

If you go smaller... say a 4"... go with 2"... they'll fit.

Cool, thank you guys! (nice rides too by the way)
And Joe, if you can get the backspacing on those that would be great, if they fit like the 69 in the pics they fit in there real nice. I know it's not really a big deal, but sometimes you see the wheels way up in the well and it looks really odd.
What diameter are most of you running, 26"? I'm trying to figure out what will look right with my 275/60-15 ET drag radials.
Thanks again, and the pics are much appreciated. I figure it's time to see if I can shave a tenth or two by losing the 15X7/ 15X8 ralleys, they weigh a freakin' ton.
Thanks again guys!

Yep, do a bathroom scale before and after. You'll be amazed.

my thread above with my cardomain listed is 275/60/15 bfg radial and a 185/65/15 on the front and i think it looks decent, im putting smaller tires on my car this weekedn tho to a 255/60/15 because i think a 275 is pushing it considering i dont have at least 400 or more horsepower

Whatever rim width, probably zero offset and at least 6-ply tires!!
