From one rs owner to another...im putting in emblems for the fenders. I took the picture of your car and I'm working with that. But my questions...If your emblems are correct and they look perfect to me, what is the measurement from the peg hole of the "ralley sport" to the fender/door horizontal line? And what is the measurement from the front of the fender to the first peg hole of the "327" emblem? The "327" I can look at your pic and blow it up and get a pretty good idea... but the "rally sport" emblem looks about two inches above from the center of the crease line? And finally, the antenna, how far from the bottom of the chrome is it? Give me the measurements and I will use them and keep them to help others as well. I appreciate it. Great car!Regards, Chris.

I used a combination of three things to try and get them placed right; my original fenders, the assembly manual, and the template kit. I wished I only used the originals as a referance. I believe that GM slapped these things on and they can vary from car to car. For example, the assy manual location is different than my original rally sport emblem location. Go figure. Here's what I've got:

The distance from the front of the RH fender to to the top RH edge of the 327 is 7/8".

The distance from the front of the LH fender to the LH edge of the 327 is 1 1/8"

The distance from the body crease to the bottom of the ll in rally sport is 1 1/2"

The distance from the rear edge of each fender to the rally sport emblem is 4 1/2"

I could not measure peg holes since they are not visible.

Use each emblem as a template. Do not mix and match because they are not all the same. I found this out the hard way.

The best way to determine the antenna location is to reach through the door jamb underneath the fender. You should be able to feel a circular hole in the reinforcement that the antenna will be centered in.

FYI. All of the info you requested is in the assembly manual, including what size hole to drill for the antenna (1 1/8"). If you don't already have one, it's the best $20 you will ever spend for your car.

Baby,

Nice car. Bet you can't wait for your son to take it for his first solo spin!

I've got a question that I hope you can help me with. I'm in the middle of swapping in a manual transmission and I need to know more about the fork arm return spring and extension. The extension attaches to some kind of bracket on the engine (according to the assy manual), but I cannot find out where it mounts or what it looks like. Can you please take a look at yours and let me know what you find?

Thanks. Carl

I believe the extension bolts to the rear of the drivers side motor mount bolt. On a small block there is a small hole there for the spring to attach to. My headers interfered with that and I made an extension out of some aluminum and bolted it at that location to clear the headers. Worked great and cost pennies. The extension was 2 1/2 inches long. The length isn't real critical. It could have been 3".

I removed the spring bracket because of header interference.

To install the return spring, I took a stainless steel hose clamp and clamped it around the header tube closest to the original location of the original bracket. I placed the clamp bolt in a position so that I could hook the end of the spring around it. Cheap solution and I've never had a problem with it.

Rick,

I thought also that it would attach to the mount, but there is no hole. Strange.

gheatly,

That is just way too easy. My brain gets stuck in a rut sometimes. Thanks.

The stainless steel clamp solution is great! To clarify my solution, I bolted the extension to the motor mount bolt.

Im going to break down and buy a manual. I have been putting it off because the cars almost done. I can see the importance of having one though (But I hate to spend too much lol). Im keeping your measurements for reference and I will probably go with your look either way because all your emblems really sets the car off. Gheatly answered the question about your question by the time I got back on here. Thanks for the reply. Cheers.

the only thing I find that Stinks about the assy manual, is that there is NO Glossery and NO table of contents, its like someone scanned the original Drafting prints into a book and published it.. although helpfull , it usualy takes me about 10 minutes to find what I am looking for... I ended up with little stick-it pads all over the place bookmarking what was what...

Agreed Chris. My wife thinks I've gone nuts as I'm reading the silly thing in bed. It's amazing what you can learn by studying the thing. I've said it more than once, the person who designs something should be forced to use (glossary) and fix it.
