I have a 68 convertible that I'll like to make a 396 ss clone. I have a 350 hp 396 and would like to put a 12 bolt posi behind it. I can order a Moser for about as much as an original 12 bolt off ebay. Would/could the Moser look authentic for the part. I realize it wouln't have numbers but numbers matching is already a lost cause. Would I need a new drive shaft or will it fit converting from a 10 bolt to 12 bolt? Thanks

The Moser 12 bolt will look nearly identical to the OEM 12 bolt. The axle tubes are slightly larger in diameter and the housing has a little more meat added in all the right places of the casting, but otherwise, they look very much the same. If you're not worried about #'s matching then it's definitely more practical to go with a Moser over rebuilding an OEM 12-bolt and you'll have a much stronger rear end to boot. You can also order it with a variety of options based on your needs/desires.
You will need to remeasure and have the length adjusted on your drive shaft. Better yet....upgrade to a stronger one from a reputable source like Inland Empire.

The biggest difference in the appearance is the way that the axle tubes are welded in. The factory tubes are plug welded and the Moser tubes are welded all the way around, which is much stronger. Otherwise you can't tell much difference. The drive shaft will bolt right in if you get the Moser with a 1310 yoke.
