View Full Version : Whats It worth if i were to Sell it?
Purple 92 SS Aug 24th, 07, 01:50 AM Here is my 1967 Camaro RS. It is basically origional. Numbers matching 92xxx miles on the odometer. it runs, albeit not very well.. and can stop on its own power as well. I have driven this car around the block. It is in full need of a restoration however. I'm the Third owner, and it has a clean South Carolina Title, but origionally was an Illionis car. I purchased this car about a year ago, adn would like to know simply because i am thinking of selling it to finance an LS1 Conversion in my 92 camaro.. so that being said, heres the car.. what you all think its worth?
Lots of pictures to follow :

BERRY251 Aug 24th, 07, 04:28 AM WOW, thats gonna need alot of work!
keypilot Aug 24th, 07, 08:53 AM 5k
Old Man Aug 24th, 07, 09:39 AM 5k
I think 5K is high for the car, unfortunately it needs alot of work, not much of it left. I'd say $2,000.00 at most.
tejasrs/ss Aug 24th, 07, 10:07 AM wow..i'd say no more than 3500.00 that's how much paid for my shell and it wasn't even close to being as bad as that.

camaromaniac Aug 24th, 07, 12:22 PM Does it really stop on it's own or do you need to drag your foot a little! It would be a major project--- not my speciality so I'll just keep quiet.
68 Ragtop Aug 24th, 07, 12:54 PM If you run the numbers on what this car is worth restored and what will it cost to restore it, it would be worth less than zero. No one looking to restore a car would pick this one. That said, some kid with more time and energy than money, and looking to get a lesson in old cars with a love for Camaro's, might pay 1-2K.
Is it a 6 or 8 cyl?
4033 Aug 24th, 07, 01:53 PM i'm surprised you didn't fall through the floor in your drive around the block. i'd say max 2k

I agree.
That's one of those cars you have to consider scraping rather than restoring.
It would take thousands of hours to restore a car in that condition.
Purple 92 SS Aug 24th, 07, 03:02 PM thanks guys for the replies. It does stop on its own cause i redid the brakes.. Lol. its a 230 inline six.. and in order to get the stuff for the ls conversion id need at least 5500. So if yall think its only really worth round 2-3 then it wouldnt be worth me selling it. unfortunately. I did post as many photos as i could to show all the issues, to get the best "valueization" by you guys.. again i really appreciate it.
11sec67 Aug 24th, 07, 03:37 PM Holey Rusted Metal Batman !!!!!... About 2k
Summit Aug 24th, 07, 04:41 PM Heck, if you were not so far away I would buy it. It is the Baby Sister to my Rusty 68. I could really impress the neighbors having two in my backyard. We all have seen worse, they are just disguised as "original Z28's " with some quick metal work and filler with a shiny paint job for sale on craigslist and ebay. Personally I would rather start with a project like this and know what needs to be done and be satisfied by the quality of work done by myself. Beats waiting for the unknown to appear.
tmannet Aug 24th, 07, 06:56 PM How sad to see a RS in that condition..I'm not sure if I'd even pay 2K for that car, possibly 1K, and that's if I had $1K to play around with... not much useable but the subframe and some window glass, few chrome pieces maybe, some emblems and front grill maybe, hood maybe, possibly the radio. Sad.
Dayton68Z28 Aug 24th, 07, 11:08 PM Steve,
Looking at your floors, Fred Flintstone comes to mind.
dragsterman Aug 25th, 07, 12:37 AM I just sold a very high optioned non running 67 RS in MUCH BETTER shape than this car a few months ago for $5200. It was not a #s matching car, but it had a heck of a lot less rust! It's a shame that car is the way it is. It would take a real car lover to bring it back to it's former glory! It needs a full roof, full floor, both rockers and heck of a lot more when you really get into it! Not worth restoring IMO? But someone will love it for the right price! Good luck!
Purple 92 SS Aug 27th, 07, 01:02 AM I never really thought it was in that bad of shape. I only purchased the car a year ago.. kinda discouraging that you all think its worth so little.

If you were to truly sell it, I think you would need to show the car in a different light. Preferably darker and keep your close ups to a minimum. Your close ups compare to the grand canyon in color and scope. I think this is the moment that a bikini clad model should be employed. Im totally joking with you.
Seriously, you just showed your car in such a negative light. After every picture, I was saying.... wow, thats not good. You can show the issues with the body without taking us inside the rust holes and filling my monitor with problems. Take pictures of all sides and let a potential buyer see what they want to see. Even if they asked for a more detailed pictures, I wouldnt take a rust hole to the scale that your showing. I would take a picture that still shows its a Camaro. Example: You could take a better picture of a rear quarter but also include the side view of the car. Phil
Uncle Tupelo Aug 27th, 07, 06:44 AM 5k
No way....if that's worth 5K mine is worth 100K...I would say no more than 2k AT BEST...that rust is EVERYWHERE. Even the rust has rust.
That would be tough to redo. Possible of course, but tough.
I'd part it out as best I could.
Uncle Tupelo Aug 27th, 07, 06:47 AM I never really thought it was in that bad of shape. I only purchased the car a year ago.. kinda discouraging that you all think its worth so little. It's always worth something to someone. But honestly....the amount of work to get that car "cancer free" would not be worth the investment to me. Like someone said earlier you could buy one in a far better starting place for less that it would cost to get that one to the same place.
Purple 92 SS Aug 28th, 07, 02:21 AM Yea, i figured that the up close photos were the type to hurt it more, but i wanted honest opinions.. and I got them for which, although its lower than i hoped, I am glad for. I at least know what others think of what i have now. Weather or not i sell it, I dont know. I know now what you all think, and if I get an offer that is good enough to me, then ill let her go im sure. I have many photos of the car, and could have easily posted ones of the car in a more favorable light, but I preferred to go this route. Thanks for your honesty in your evaluations though. It helps me as much as hearing it hurt.

This guy has his head stuck in his home town. Dont take him seriously! He is only here to needle and get a reaction.

Man that was so funny I forgot to laugh. At least your home town is a good fit for you, your right where you need to be.

You did the right thing by being honest, so dont be too hard on yourself. My concern would be safety, not compromising the "unit" of the car and its strength. Its a shame its in bad shape- but no reason to lay that on your doorstep.
Good luck-
68RS-SS Aug 28th, 07, 01:13 PM Look at the bright side - 10 years ago, in that shape, the car would be worth $200 - maybe. At least now you could at least capture $1,500 for it. :)
Ah the good ol days - if we only knew and had the money. My 68RS/SS 12 years ago cost $3,200 with a near-perfect rust-free body, original deluxe interior and a 425hp engine ready to go w/12bolt, centerlines, and needing some minor misc TLC of course. Over the years, I've since put over $20k into it so think I'm still a little ahead of the game - not that I'd ever sell it. I wish they still cost that much... In my opinion, it's too bad that the values have skyrocketed. I never cared about these cars cause they were worth a lot of money - I just liked the heck out of them cause they were the coolest car that I'd ever seen since I could remember. I think that once people start focusing on the value of the car, they've lost the "little kid inside" and becomes more business oriented and the passion for the real value of the hobby dies.
A car like above is tempting for many since "cheap" but once they realize the TIME, effort, $$, etc. necessary it just doesn't make sense and the cheap initial investment ends up turning into way more time and money then if they would have paid a few grand more for a somewhat decent car. Unless of course your talking about a very rare model.
I'd start out asking for $2500 and be satisfied to accept $1500 if offered.

"I have two 67 camaros for sale, one is a RS that is unrepairable no motor no trans no rear-end (NOTHING) but the vin plates are still in good shape. The other is a roller (coupe) that could be fixed, it only has doors (good shape) w/door and quarter glass. The doors are worth $1000. This car needs everything (quarters, floors, etc.) $1500 678-617-3803"

This TROLL needs to be booted off the site.
Purple 92 SS Sep 3rd, 07, 11:26 AM wow that atlanta one is in rough shape. scary! i thought mine was bad.
RobSS1113 Sep 3rd, 07, 11:50 PM Poor RS . ! If the Hide-a-way set up works .. then thats a big Plus .. ! but then again ... theres alot more negatives than plus's there.
every car can be Restored. I've seen worse Cars than that .
I think most members are just agreeing on the previous members post that its not worth it etc.
sorry if you feel bad .. that the offers they have said is way less than what you paid.
Good luck and God speed on what ever you decide to do with it . !
Rob.
madmax87 Sep 4th, 07, 04:03 AM If you have the time and place, I think you could get your money but you would have to part the car out. RS grill and components, bumpers, glass, subframe, seats. All the little stuff. There's a big market for original parts. It's sometimes just a turnoff when you have to buy the complete car to get certain parts you need.

mtnhopper are you saying you are selling your car with the idea that the value is in the VIN and cowl tag ?
As far as this RS...the problem is that unless someone has an emotional attachment..it cost the same to restore this RS as it would any other car in similiar condition. Even if a guy had the skill would he be spending that time on a 67 six banger or a more desireable car that would at least yield him some equity for his investment of time and energy...
How about donating it to a ROP or school automotive shop and getting yourself a nice tax write off ?
Purple 92 SS Sep 8th, 07, 12:33 AM well ive decied to sell it.. and I am entertaining offers. Ive got it listed on a few local forums, and hopefully itll sell fast, and for a price i hope to be fair. My last option will be to put it on ebay if it does not sell locally.
Thanks for all your input guys. It has helped. Unfortunately, ive come to the realization that I dont have the money right now nor the facilitys to properly embark on the quest of resto-modding it as i would love to have.
Purple 92 SS Sep 20th, 07, 12:12 AM Car is still for sale.. if anyone wants it.. entertaining offers.
