I know with out seeing it, its hard to tell but what do you guys think from the pics and description? Remeber I cannot afford more than this so does this one appear to be worth it? And what should I look for if I decide to go take a look. I want a car that I can drive and enjoy and do some work along the way. Does anyone know anything about the dealer? Thank you guys for your opinions.
camaromaniac Aug 24th, 07, 03:40 PM Okay, let's look at what we have here (for all we know); it's a base 69 Camaro that has had some modifications to clone it as an SYC car. It's a 350 stroked or bored out to a 388 (3), with an auto and 12 bolt with unknown rear gears and no power or disc brakes. Of course, we don't know how well the drivetrain runs out and whether there is any rust or not which is critical to any value assessment. The one mod that really kills a lot of us old school guys is the fender flares--- you either lovem or hatem. If you like the car and either personally inspect it or have it professionally inspected, then you can come up with some points of negotiating the purchase. IE, let's say you really like the car the way it is, but feel $21k is your top dollar for it. Then let's say after the inspection you find something undisclosed by the seller that will need attention (paint flaw, trans shifts poorly, oil burning, etc) you would then take the estimated repair cost away from your $21k and there you have your offer amount! Best, Charlie 69 RS
ps: what you don't want to do is make a mistake in buying this or another car and then either throwing $ at it to fix things you didn't know about or try and resale it once you give up because you will wind up with less $ than you started with.
LDB Aug 24th, 07, 03:45 PM Hey thats great thank you for that reply, I really don't like the flares but I am having a heck of a time finding something decent in this price range. I am ok with base models I know I cannot afford a number matching (YET) I would like to accomplish the pro touring look with this one.
Old Man Aug 24th, 07, 03:59 PM Are you stuck on a 69? I've seen alot of nice 67's & 68's for less than that. Infact I was kind of surprised at the prices of 67's. try this web site, it will give you an idea of what they are going for now. It's always the best idea to go physically look the car over or have someone do it for you, it minimizes the oops later on down the road.

tmannet Aug 24th, 07, 07:00 PM The slick ad makes me suspicious right off the bat. This could be yet another rusty car patched up and repainted...look at the hood hinge area under the hood, just a hint of that. I'd be very wary of this car, for that kind of $$ there are lots of cars too choose from...just my opinion.
myyenco Aug 24th, 07, 08:20 PM I'm going to go out on a limb and say this looks like a car that was local a few years ago that I went to look at when it was for sale.
The reason I believe it's the same car are the 383 emblems, the flares, the color and the missing Yenko emblem on the driver fender.
I'll say this about the car (assuming it's the same one) from what I remember and think you should ask for clarification or pictures of the following: the dash top was rusted and had an obvious smear of bondo and painted a bright blue, the wheel flare on the driver side was cracked ALL the way around the wheel lip, could have been fixed but they only give you a clear shot of the pass side in the ad, the back seat was black in an otherwise blue interior, the hood had a dent in the raised cowl about half way back towards the passenger side , however it did have the hood stripe then could have been repaired or replaced but???
Also, I think the floors were soft on the driver side, and the trunk needed some work including I believe the driver side shock tower. Also ask for pics along the lower edge of the doors.
On a positive note, I believe the front clip had been replaced with repro parts not long before I saw it, and the motor sounded healthy.
FWIW: They turned down my offer of $11K, I think the BIN on EBAY was $13,500, I think the auction ended just over $12K. But that was a 2-3 years ago. It changed hands a few times after that and was advertised again within a month every time it sold.
If it's the same car (and I believe it is), you can do A LOT better for $23K.
Mr. C Aug 25th, 07, 09:03 AM In the day, when someone would ad flares it was usually done to hide the rusted out fender lip.

Yes, I didn't mention that (thought it was pretty much a given) but if this is the car I looked at; then I believe that is the case!
The car I looked at pretty much needed a restoration, and had a decent sounding aluminum headed small block and auto trans, that were advertised as fresh. I did not take it for a test ride. It looked like it would have been an OK car for a driver. I wouldn't have entered it in any local or other shows.
