say there are 5 camaros in a line and getting ready to take off from a green light...each camaro has a different tranny (see list below) but same 3:55 rear end gear......which car would tach out 1st gear first ?...or which one would basically tach out all the gears quickest ?which one is geared the lowesti guess i would be asking ?

borg warner-stock
saginaw-stock
and the muncie-stock m20 or the m22 close ratio
tko 5 speed-stock
tko 6 speed-stock

Here is a link to a site that gives engine and transmission specs for most models. You can look at the gear ratios for all tranny's. http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~biesiade/Specs.htm

Which one tachs out first gear and which one goes through all the gears quickest are probably two different things. I think the TKO500 has the lowest first gear at 3.27:1. I'm not sure about the B-W but the Muncies are around 2.40 and 2.60.

Good Luck!

As already stated, some of the TKO's come with a 3.27:1 first gear, and would wind out 1st/first.

My gear box is not on your list, it has a 3.25:1 first gear. With a 3.50:1 rear gear, I get about 65 to 70 feet (50mph) when I grab 2nd.
For drag racing thats actually to much 1st gear. A lower (numericaly higher) total first gear would be better. Say a 3.89 to 4.56:1, rear gear with my 3.25 1st, for atleast a 12.64:1 total first gear (3.25 X 3.89 = 12.64).

Watch this guys in car vid, he is grabbing 2nd within 40 or so feet of launch.

I'd say he is probably using a 3.20 to 3.50 first, with about a 4.88 or more rear gear.
Compare my vid, with a 3.50: rear gear (more street friendly)

Hope some of this helps, also here is a calculator for gear ratios.

Isn't modern at all, but I figure that a 4+1 Richmond 1 to 1 ratio 5th gear 5-speed tranny w/ a 3.25 or so 1st gear along w/ either a 2.73 for road trips or to 3.31's to 3.55's for some strip duty would be a dandy IF it could hold say 600+ T.

I say this b/c OD tranny's are less eff. in OD than 1 to 1 high gear ratio tranny's!!

Absolutely:thumbsup:

My G-force is the HD version of the Nash/Richmond 5, with dog-ring/face-plating.
Never could figure out why those tranys were known as " 4+1 " ??

I dont think there is a TKO 6 speed
and you left off the T-56
first gear ratio of 2.66:1 (6th of .5:1)

But what exactly are you trying to figure out, why the odd question?
