when cruising in my 69 w/th350 I will be in drive and just barely touch the gas pedal and the car shifts down to 2nd.Is this just the down shift cable needing adjustment?Do you just snap the clip up on the cable and put the throttle to the floor and then snap the clip down?

Yes, and that sounds correct. I have used lokar set-up in the past which is very adjustable with an allen head bolt, but the description you are giving sound right.

My current TH350 doesn't allow the cable = manual downshifts.
