View Full Version : Ford 9 inch and tire size

I have a 69 Camaro that has a Ford 9 inch rear, leaf spring setup. The rear was there when I bought the car. The car has 15x8 Ralleys on the rear with 255/60/15's on it. After removing the slapper bars/etc that was also on the car when I bought it, I am now getting some tire rub when I hit bumps.

I was told that if I swap the rear tires and put 235/60/15's on it, I could still use the 15x8 Ralleys and that the 235 would pull the tire inside the fender far enough where I wouldn't have any more tire rub.

Do any of you know if this is the way to go? I'd prefer to have a Chevy rear under the car, but it's not in the budget at the moment. Do I need to change to 15x7's on the rear? Is the Ford 9 wider than a Chevy 12 or 10 bolt? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, if anyone living in the Atlanta area would like to swap a Chevy 8.5 or 12 bolt for a Ford 9 with two third members, I might be interested. The third member in the car is a 3.50, the one I just took out is a nodular iron 4.10.

Thanks,

Rick

Also, the tire rub is toward the outside of the fender.
