Need some advice from the pros. I tried sanding my old paint down to the bare metal, it takes a long time. Then I bought a 4 1/2" plastic media stripping wheel for my angle grinder. Wow way faster. The wheel is the type that has what looks like shredded plastic on a base and wears away as it gets used. Is this ok to strip the whole body with? It seems to leave a smooth although slightly swirled finish. I dont know what the finished metal surface is supposed to be, do people use 80 or 100 grit sandpaper or what? That would give me some comparison. I was thinking of buying some Roloc wheels that have the plastic stubs for my die grinder for the tight spots. Question good idea or not and what color (I think thats how coarseness is defined). Or should i use like a scothchbrite disc for that. Thanks for any help.

I purchaced a product from Eastwood Co. Product # 31114 (Cleaning / Stripping disc system) and they work great, takes the paint off real clean and lasts a good lond time.

Those stripping discs are great. You can get them at Grainger for a bit cheaper than Eastwood.

Those look great. The one Im using takes it off well but I am concerned how smooth the finished metal is supposed to be.Mine has swirl marks but feels smooth.

Thats OK to have swirl marks. When youre done with the stripping youre going to use a good metal etching filling primer. That will fill all those in and bond to the bare metal. On top of that you will do your minor bodywork, fillers etc... then a good basecoat primer, then topcoat.
