View Full Version : 235/60/15 - backspace
duskblue69 Sep 2nd, 07, 07:08 PM I have a 69 Camaro, stock front end just completely rebuilt, Ford 9 in the rear. Currently I have 215/60/15s on the front, 15x7 rim, and 255/60/16s on the rear, 15x8 rim. The backspace on the rear is 4.5. Don't know on the front. The rear tires rub when I hit a bump. The rear is a 5 leaf spring setup.
I would like to run 235/60/15s all the way around. I have contacted several members and appreciate their input. While searching the forums, I have found some members run a 4.0, some 4.25, and some a 4.50 backspace, especially on the front.
I will be running a 15 x 7 Ralley Wheel all the way around. Which backspace do I use so that I will not have any rubbing at all on the front and rear?
Thanks,
Rick
guccieng Sep 3rd, 07, 01:51 AM 15x7's were 4 inch bs. if you have disc brakes, that can move you out a bit, depending on what kind of discs you have. with discs, i'd recommend 4 1/4 to 4 1/2 if you have the option. most of us just use what's available and 'standard' with no issues. on the rear, you need at least 4 3/4 inch bs without rolling your fender lip. roll the lip, and you can fit as little as 4 inch bs on an 8 inch rim, but you probably wouldn't want to. the standard big wheel without tubbing is 9.5 inches with 5.5 inch bs. that's 4 inches outside both sides, hence 8 inch wheel -4 outside, =4 bs inside. to center the wheel in the space available, we come up with the 4 3/4 inch bs.
duskblue69 Sep 4th, 07, 06:50 AM John,
Thanks for the info. In looking at Rick's Camaros web site, the only 15x7 that they sell has a 4.5 backspace. So I'll probably go with that all the way around and put the 235/60/15s on all four corners.
Thanks again,
Rick
Farm Boy Sep 4th, 07, 07:51 AM Summit has them with 3.75, 4.00, 4.25, and 4.50 backspace.

guccieng Sep 4th, 07, 07:51 AM no prob. those will work great with disc brakes...
duskblue69 Sep 4th, 07, 08:09 AM Thanks for all of the information from both of you. I do have regular front disk brakes and forgot to mention that. I'll probably pick up the wheels from Summit as they have the better price and I can drive and pick them up. I have to get the universals for the rear since I have the Ford bolt pattern on the rear.
I have Year One one exit above where I live, Rick's Camaros is about 30 miles away, Summit Racing is about 60 miles, Goodmark Industries is about 22 miles away. So it's fairly easy for me to get parts.
