i got a 67 rs ss 350 and as far as iknow the only performance change it has is a eldelbrock 650. i am about to put in a 4 speed and was going to change the cam to get some more out of it. its a daily driver but i want as much as i can get and still get around town. 1 other thing is it has power brakes and i want to keep those. what kind of cam should i be looking at.

Heck, no more than a good old CC 268HE or 270 Magnum, or Crane/Cam Dynamics 272/272 Enrrgizer or Isky 270 Mega hy-cams will do you nicely, imho!!

Note, nothing fancy at all here!!

The biggest mistake most make is thinking "ok new cam"
The secret is ALL the go stuff balanced to fit the rpm range u what to use
IE the carb size, compression, header type, cam, fuel type.
Also these components will ONLY work well in their rpm range, and only OK outside the range.
U mention "i want as much as i can get and still get around town."
Well why not build for around town...say 1200 to 4500 rpm?
Sure u will 0nly get low 14s at the strip. maybe hi 13s...but when u boot off the line from idle, she will light up across an interesction nps.

Most cars, as they come out of the factory, are where a compromise...tendng better to the bottom end but basically mid range....that is good markettng to a wide customer base.
If u take one of these then change the go stuff to the specialist range u want to use it for, they tend to do it better and far more effiently.

So u want basically a stock engine, stay a daily, but able to show off respectfully
low duration cam, slow ramps, rams horns, duel exhaust, max 600 carb, pref 450, duel plane manfold and divder

Highly recommend avoiding the 268XE (or other XE line cams). Look at the other recent post which mentions some bad things about it. I tried one a few years ago and wish I never did. They've been notorious for flattening of lobes. Don't waste your time. I'm sure others have had some success but your rolling the dice. Nothing against the other Comp Cams products but based on all the comments I've seen, this one has caused a lot of dissapointment for many people. Don't go too steep and also don't be too conservative. Talk to lots of people and reps before making your decision. Definitely consider a roller cam if you budget allows. It's really worth it in the long run.

I went with a Crower Monarch 270s (old school) with solids from Crower and absolutely LOVE it. A little lope and good vacuum and very usable power. Like pdq67 says "nothing fancy". It all depends on what you realisticly want to do with the car. Kevin

And fwiw, I ran the great old -151, 350hp/327 hy-cam in my 350SS engine 1200 miles from new as my daily driver for several years and it pulled like a freight train from low 2nd to the top of 3rd!!

M-20, 3.31's and 8.00/14 real recap slicks or thereabouts!!

And you talk about talking to you at 5500 rpm in 4th w/ my 29.5" tall M&S's on it commuting!!

What rear gears and compression are you running?

For a "true daily driver" 350 that is basicly stock, IMO the Isky 264 Mega would be a nice cam. In a 350 it should have a little bit of a "lump" at idle, but still have real good low-mid range torque and be able to hang on to around 5500 rpm or so.

It's a tad small if the engine is at 10 to 1 CR., imho!

BUT, right, it's a darn good cam and I seem to always forget it!

308 is a nice gear for a daily
Idealy a 2.75 is better but if u want a daily that will jump off the line reasonable it is hopless...so the 308 is a good compromise between daily and a rocket ship.

And the 3.31's are the best compromise to me!!

I love my 3.31's!!

And Freddie say's somebody is going to be re-popping them shortly, all the better!!
