Hi I'm based in the UK wondered if someone out there could answer this question.

I have a an early build 1968 Z28 Camaro with an engine build date of late September 1967. I do not have the original carb but have a correct one with a later build date of April 1968 on a 4053 body code.

My question is should my car have a 4053 code carb or a 3910 carb as I understand the 3910 codes were for 1967 cars. The fact my car happens to be a 1968 model year car but built in late 1967 I wanted to check which code carb would have been fitted with from the factory before I start looking for a date code correct carb to match the car..

Any replies would be most appreciated.

Hi,
My 1968 has a 12D Build Date and the Carb is a 3910. The car is all original.
Hope this helps.

Tory's would be the first I've ever heard of a `68 Z28 with a `67 carb on it, esp. considering I've seen 4053 carbs dated all the way back to June of `67. Not saying it's not possible, but it is certainly an exception rather than the norm.

Stick with a 4053 carb if you want it correct.

I have to agree with Eric. The only reason why I left the carb on the car is because my Dad had the car since new and the carb was never changed. If I was looking for a correct carb and did not have the original, I would also look for a 4053.
Hope this helps,
Tory

Thanks guys, very helpful and much appreciated.

All I have to do now is find an August or very early Sept 67 date coded 4053 or swap with someone interested in my complete and unrestored April 68 coded 4053.

MacNeish says all 68 Zs were equipped with the 4053. I'm sure there were exceptions but that's your best choice.

I would be looking for a 4053 with date coding for a 12A car. I believe it needs the 8xx stamping? Any that had a good one, I have an 850 HP holley to trade.
