My engine backfired on startout and then after driving a few yards noticed my brake pedal was harder than normal..
Could the backfire have knocked off a vacuum hose if so where would I look?
Did backfire caused power booster to fail?
Any suggestions are two events not related?
Thanks

with power brakes there's usually a 3/8 rubber or steel line from the intake/carb to the booster. Sounds like it either blew off or was damaged from the backfire. It is usually on the back side of the engine, you can trace it from the power booster.

Usually the first thing is the plastic fitting where the hose goes into the power booster.

I found the plastic fitting and it looks like the cap (top) had popped off. I found the plastic top sitting on the engine .
Question do I need to replace it?
Can I push it o r glue it back in?
Is the white plastic fitting sold?
Doe it just screw it the booster?
Thanks

you should replace it, they're very inexpensive. You can buy them at the local auto parts store, they push into the booster and the line usually just clamps on.

This is a one way check valve and it needs to be in the booster. Buy two so you will have a spare as most of these are made in China. Barb fitting seal .
