Is anyone still using the factory ralleys?. I think I would like to put the corvette 15x 8 ralleys on my 69. Will I have any clearance problems? The tires are p23560r15

I don't think the backspace is really suited to a 1st gen. They kinda stick out too far.

It sorta depends on the look you want.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the GM (Kelsey Hayes) 15 x 8 rallys have a 4" backspace.

Here are some shots of a test fit of rallys on mine. The wheels are 15 x 8 Wheel Vintiques with 4" backspace, and the tires are 255/60 15. I thought they looked like the were too far out from the body at the front bottom of the quarter, and I have never like the way the trim rings fit a 15 x 8 wheel (about a 1" gap).

If I had gone with rally's, I would have used 15 x7 instead because they have a little more backspace and the trim rings fit right. Here's an "FW" 15x7 rally with a 225/70 15.

Of course, I didn't end up using either rally :)

I had the Corvette 15x8 on my 69. At that time I had a 10bolt with drum brakes and factory discs on front. Nothing but grief from wheel rub front and back. I have changed to a 12 bolt again with drum brakes with still rubbing issues. I have since changed to 15x8 with 5" bs on rear and 15x7 with 4"bs on front. I have no issues. I am running 235/60/15 on back 225/60/15 front and there is plenty of room for more tire on the rear. I also run a set of billet wheels with 255s on the rear and still room for a little more tire.

I been running 15x8 corvette ralleys with no prob. Ive had 4 diff. size tires on all 4 corners and no rubbing. Except for the 255/60 but that doesnt really count, does it?? The one I thought looked the best was 225/60. I did notice the gap for the ring but with the 8's you get a much smoother ring with more depth.

I have the 15x8 all around with 265/50/15's back and 225/50/15's front. The width of the back tire is wide and I do have rubbing issues becuase of that. I added air shocks to stiffin the back up and has been great. The front I have no issues. i like the meaty look in the back.

Hi,

I run ralleys. 15X7 with 4 inch backspace on front. 15X8 with 4.5 backspace on rear. 235/60R15 front, 255/60r15 or 275/60r15 rear.

I have a 67 coupe 15X7 with 4 inch backspace on front. 15X8 with 4.5 backspace on rear. 225/60R15 front, 275/60r15 rear. I put the 6 leaf springs from NPD to stop rubbing works great. If I have 4 people in the car and hit a bump I will rub. BTW I have 2 of the 15X8 rims sitting around doing nothing.

Check my signature for my 15x8's on 235/60/15's. No rub and IMO they don't stick out that far. They are AZ code Vette wheels.

I had 15x8 vette rally wheels on my '69 with 235/60R15 tires. With the Vette wheels (4" backspace) the wheels stich out pretty far and I had to run a "jacked up" ride height front and rear to keep the tires from rubbing the top of the wheelwell. I'm pretty sure if you run a "lowered" Camaro (top of tire even with top of wheelwell) the vette rallys will not fit. I ended up moving over to 15x7 rallys with the same tires and lowering the car. Fitment was better (but the 235's would rub the fram up front at full lock).

HOWEVER -- I'm 99% sure you can get 15x8 repro rally wheels with 4.5" backspace, which should fit fine and give you the wide wheels for fat tires. I'd reccomend this route if you really want the 15x8's as it should make life easier for you...

I've got 15x8 with 235/60/15 rear and 225/60/15 front and no rub issues and my car has the hotchkis lowering kit on it. I love the look of ralleys and mine are color keyed...painted the same color as the car(red)...and with the rings and centers on look realy cool and different I might add!

I'm debating on wheels and tires and have a simple request. For those running 15 x 8 wheels and responding, please state whether your wheels are GM (code "AZ" Corvette wheels with 4" backspacing) or aftermarket with different backspacing (e.g. Wheel Vintiques with 4.5" backspacing). It makes a big difference. From what I keep reading, Corvette rally wheels can only be run on the front if you want the car sitting higher and/or with stiff suspension.

Here is a pic of mine with a Corvette 15X8, 255/60 R15 on it. Sometimes going up the drive I'll hear it rub but not that often. If you run a Corvette beauty ring you can eliminate the 1" gap that Eric talks about, but then you have a round edge on the ring compare to flat on a 15X7. Not very noticeable but just to let you know. Front of car has 15X7 on it.

The rears work with 15x7. The fronts will most likely rub.
