I have 461 camelbacks or 487x. I don't know if these will do the trick.

if your trying to do it naturally aspirated it'd be much easier and possibly cheaper to get that kind of hp with aftermarket heads. popular hotrodding built a 383 with iron heads ( i forget what brand though ) and dyno'd 502 hp and 500tq. i think the article is in their archives.

You could do it with a 383 recip assembly and Chevy Bowtie Vortec 210's peretty easily I'd think.

The big Voryecs are a 216 to 218 runner as we build a lot of 11:01 circle track engines using these heads and we see around 550 horse and we are usiing 010 blocks with billet caps, BBC cam tunnels, Ford lifter bores ETC.

For the money you are going to spend to get either of these heads to support anywhere close to 500hp, you'd be much better off buying 2-3 pairs of AFR's or Brodix's.

I got some LT-1 heads angle plug cheap and it cost me $130 to get them worked to flow 218 @ .600 thats about where they peaked tho....that should make 500hp with good cam and big enuff carb. JM.02, bigger carbs for strokers has always done real good for me....:D

218 28" h2o at .600" lift....I think thats great for cast heads. Course Im no expert. IS this not as good as I thought?
Machinist said it was unbelievable.....he had never messed with cast angle plug heads before....

Could be my ignorance, but talking about 500 hp and 218 CFM @ .600 lift seems inconsistent. Most aftermarket heads (which is what folks are using to see high HP from SBCs) are doing in the 280-300 CFM range @ 0.600.

Ok, I misunderstood. Yes 218 at .600 is in-efficient for hi-HP numbers....just using my cheap cast heads as an example of what could be done was all. :D
To make an honest 500HP you would need some good aftermarket heads.

There is no better up front money you can spend on an engine than for good heads.

all the cam, carb, intake, blower, turbo and nitrous in the world wont do any good until you get it into the combustion chamber...heads are prolly a #1 priority imo...
