Hey Guys ,
Have just finished off my car & will be taking it for its first run to the track within the next week or so & had a couple of questions.
I have been emailing Travis from Calvert racing & he suggested for a street car to adjust the Cal-Tracks up to a quarter turn pre-load on both sides. This is what I have done & it seems okay on the street. Do any of you guys use something similar to this or have any other recommendations ?
With the M/T drag radials what pressure have you had most success with & have you found they like to be stalled up to say 3000 then hit or keep the revs down & hit them hard when the converter locks up ?

I run Caltrac bars and monoleafs. Preload as you say. My bars are in the lower hole for a softer hit. I launch at 2200. I run 275 MT drag radials. After trying 12-18 psi, I found that about 14 psi works great.
Good luck.

I built a set of CalTracs and borrowed a pair of MT DR's (276/60/15) from a friend. I have 4 leaf Z-28 style replacement springs and 1 full turn of preload. With 30psi :clonk: went 1.64 60's... knew i should have let some air out. Anything above 2500rpm launch spun the tires.

I have cal tracs and M/T radials, and love them. I set mine at 1/4 turn to start, and it worked great, I've never had to change. As for tire pressure, I run 18 psi, but it will vary from car to car. Bottom line though, run as high of a pressure as you can with the tires still hooking.
Pre load and tire pressure will vary car to car, based on power curve, gears, suspension, pinion angle, etc., but I think with the 1/4 turn and I'd try 18 psi first, you have a good starting point.
On mine, I run 15" ralleys and radials, on stock springs, 1/4 (maybe slightly more) turn in the upper hole, and run consistent high 1.50 60' times, best of 1.56. When you get it set up good it should be real consistent.

Thanks guys.
I am still running the original multi leaf spring set up. I have the caltracks in the top hole also. I had to cut the bottom hole off as I have the car lowered & with the bottom still on there I was lucky to have 2" of ground clearance.
Do you guys run the pre-load the same on both sides ?
Do you leave them set the same for the street ?
I also have a set of Summit 90/10's for the front. I am currently running a set of Koni's on there that are adjusted up fairly firm. Do you think the 90/10's will make any noticeable difference ?

I'm running the Cal Tracs and a set of Landrum monoleaf springs (sold on model and weight on the rear wheels) on my Nova. I have the right hand side preloaded, bars in the lower hole, the rec'd Rancho shocks at 5, and off the footbrake launch around 1700-1800 rpm (same rpm I use on my slicks). I'm running the 275/60/15 MT drag radials on an 8" rim, and have tried 16-20 psi and found 17-18 psi works well for a 1.52 best 60 foot.

I preload mine the same as everyone else here. Do it with a driver in the seat who weighs close to what you do.
I use the top hole.
Also have the split monos and QA-1 singles.
I haven't tried the drag radials, but with 9" radial slicks it's gone 1.37 60 ft.
I don't change the settings for the street.
