View Full Version : Finally made a nitrous pass!
ron498 Sep 15th, 07, 12:51 AM So I finally got everything done and made it to the track.
I'll cut right to the chase.
Made one pass on the motor to make sure all was well with the car and the track. Air was not so good, 80% rel humidity and the barometer was low. Cool, but muggy.
That pass was a 10.12 @ 131.6. A bit off, but not bad considering the car now has extra weight to carry with all the nitrous stuff. 60ft was a 1.44.
Turned the bottle on, didn't use the bottle warmer cause it was at 900psi. I had the 100 horse jets in...this is my first nitrous experience. The retard box had 4 degrees in it. Pump gas in the tank....never even put in new plugs.
I wasn't going to purge in order to soften the hit......I purged it! I just had to.
Wasn't going to leave full throttle...I did.
Tree comes down, I hammer it and whoo hoo! Shift! Shift! Ran super clean to the finish line. RPM looks good at 6600. I knew it would be good. Big wheelie off the line, and it stuck like glue.
9.53 @ 140.5
1.37 60 ft
6.05 @ 113 1/8 mile
6 tenths and 8mph from a 100 shot.
A guy could get hooked on this stuff.......
There were a lot of rumpity rump "race cars" out tonight, the place was a zoo...the track closes for the year after tomorrow. My street car was the fastest of the night....and I changed tires and drove it home.
Of course I'm thinking....150 shot.....careful tune, maybe 9.20's?
Sean....thanks for all the encouragement. It made a difference!
Ron

Awesome Ron, way to go! What a rush huh, the stuff just wakes the motor right up, you can really feel the motor rev.
Your car kicks ass, the fact you can rip off a 9.50 and drive home, with a little 100 horse shot, is just flippin cool as heck. I honestly believe with some tweaking and tuning, good air and a 200 horse shot you will see 8's, how cool would that be, bust out an 8 second pass and drive home.... oh yeah. My Camaro is a turd compared to yours, but I beat up on cars that LOOK a lot faster, I love that too.
I figured you'd hook, as well as your car seems to 60', amazingly it seems a car that plants the tires good and hooks hard will just keep hooking with a bigger and bigger shot, to a point, the wheelies will just get bigger :D.
Oh by the way, the season here is winding down, but fyi, there is another race in October at pacific, if the weather holds the air is always killer, and actually the last two years it's been a nice day. I will be shooting for that day with my car, or if we get the race car together we will be out with it, you should try to make it out, it's October 28, Sunday. It would be cool to see you out there!
I'm glad I could help you out a bit, thats what it's all about. :beers:

Yes, it was like all of a sudden, the engine feels like you want it to. Like it felt when I first put it in and wasn't used to it. Like the 565 I want would feel!
Your car isn't a turd! C'mon. Don't even go there!
I just had a feeling that with the 3.73 gear and some spray, the car would get right back to where it was with the 4.10's last year. It's felt just a bit lazy NA with the 3.73's, but in all honesty, 4.10's to 3.73's is quite a change.
The Caltrac split mono setup lets the car move out then pick up the wheels. I do have a video....but not one I can get to digital. It carried the wheels for quite a ways. Then set down and picked them up again. Time for some double adj front shocks! At the same time, it never spun. And once again, my buddies all thought the track was crap......
I'd love to come up for that race.......would have to find a truck and trailer!
Someday, we will hook up.
Thanks again.....
Ron
smits67 Sep 15th, 07, 06:10 PM Ron,
Your commentary on the nitrous pass brought a smile to my face. Congratulations on such an outstanding performing street driven car! I can relate....Trying to make my car like yours. :)
Keep up the good work,
Smitty
Old Man Sep 15th, 07, 08:57 PM Nice pass man. We took my T/A out last night, cool front came thru low density altitude and a good track, the car clicked off a 5.56@127 (5.56 @ 127) on a 1.34 60ft on drag radials in the 1/8th which is about a 8.72 in the 1/4. I wouldn't go above a 150 shot unless that motor is built for nitrous, just to be safe.

Now that is a good story with a super happy ending:thumbsup: Made me smile, sound just like what i would do.
Congrats, :hurray: 9.53!!! Ya baby. THEN HE DRIVES IT HOME!!
Need vidio and pics ---Bill.
ron498 Sep 17th, 07, 12:52 PM Thanks guys....it was quite a rush.
I had hoped to race again the following night, but the track was over run with imports. It was the last night of the season....the track is now closed for repaving.
So my one bottle pass might be the last of the year. I guess it was worth it.
150 horse is the highest I'll go. Unless we add some better parts over the winter.....
Ron
