I flopped the belts when I started the car the other day. Then when I got the front end aligned last week, the guy who does it took the car around the block and the belts flew off fagain. Can't deal with overheating and no power steering. Went out and got the March pulleys and hopefully wont run into that problem any more.

With all the little things that have been happening to keep the car from being reliable right now, something tells me that I'll be getting rid of that fan shroud and fan and replacing it with a dual fan setup, hmmmmm -- wonder what else will come up

Doug... your fan is way to far away from the shroud! It should be half way into the shroud opening. Setting that up properly will end the over heating for sure. :)

Kev -- agreed -- the shroud that came with the car was one of those home-made "custom" pieces that had a piece of aluminum (could have been roof flashing :D) wrapped around it to cover the fan. The shroud that's on the car now is one I had laying around the garage.

I'm trying to decide whether to get another fan shroud or just bite the bullet and go with a dual fan setup on the radiator. Hmmmm -- I have a tee time later this morning so I guess I'll have a beverage with the fellas :beers: and ponder my next move.

Harley -- thanks -- I'm not really down at all -- its just seems like its one little thing after another -- the boys and I will get these last few problems ironed out and I'll be cruisin' again this week

Just curious, what did you pay for the March set up? Sounds like a project I will do in the near future. I don't have a belt problem, just like the way it looks.

Doug,
I would look at just getting a stock replacement SBC fan shroud. I have had great success with the factory design (aluminum rad, flex fan spaced right, stock shroud and a 160 thermostat). I drive almost every day in hot Atlanta traffic without overheating.

I probably could have gotten it a little cheaper, but I was impatient and needed it right awat so I went to one of the local speed shops since they had it in stock -- with belts $575

That's my decision point right now -- I can go with the correct fan shroud and probably have the car run cool in traffic, or I can spend a little money and go with the dual fan setup ---- I'm still thinking it over :beers:

I run the March Performance 22071 Serpentine Belt System because I have AC, same kit basically but with AC option. Had it for a few years, love it.

for about $10, you could have just gone to a junkyard and got the crank, water pump, and alternator pulleys off a mid 80's Chevy/GMC truck or Caprice. they used the flat 5 groove belt for the alt, and it will not fall off. it does, however, still use a regular belt on the PS. another $15 for the proper belt and 1/2 hour to paint them up and put them on, and you'd be good to go.
as for the cooling- get rid of the flex fan and get a good clutch fan off a mid 80's f body, and get the proper shroud.
