I have an 86 Z28 with 4bbl 305 and 700r4, also an 88 convertible with 305tbi and 700r4. They are both having the same problem, they wont shift past 2nd gear. I have checked the shifter linkage,fluids, and throttle vavle cable, still cant figure it out. any advice please

most likely same problem with both. the 3/4 clutches are burnt out.very popular with the 700r4 or 4l60-e

:)thanks for the advice and it now sounds like a good time to put the 5 or 6 speed in like i want, so i will let yall know what happens

found out the problem it was the shift governor for the tranny

Good catch Scott. Glad it turned out to be a relatively inexpensive fix. You might want to check out the sticky at the top of this forum.
