Does anyone know if a 2nd gen sub frame will fit a first gen I think I heard of this being done before?

No it will not work. Tie rod is on the wrong side of the crossmember and track is too wide, different mounting points, etc.

I beleive the 72-74 Nova subframe is about your best betif you're replacing a 1st gen subframe. As Larger Dave said, the geometry of a 2nd gen subframe is completely different. There are other GM models with the same subframe as the Nova, though their names escape me. Perhaps someone else can fill in the gap.

If price isn't a problem, Hotrod Magazine had a article this spring with a dozen manufacturers of first gen sub frames. Most were pricey. All were top notch quality.

That sounds right. My 74 Nova subframe was $125 plus another $200 for a sandblast and epoxy coating.

I'm not sure he was asking if it was a bolt in, but if it could be done.

Z10 Paceman - It can be done, or at least I've seen at least one car in a magazine where this was done, and supposedly wasn't "too" difficult. It's been discussed here before, do a search. But I don't think there has ever been a clear desicion on exactly what would need to be done to make it fit.
