Just got back from the Rod Run in Pigeon Forge TN and there was a 68 Z/28 with "LOBO" painted on the quarters. The car was for sale and said it had the matching #'s motor, trans, etc but said the #'s on the engine were one number or one letter off (Ican't remember which one) and thought to be a mistake. It looked marina blue with black interior and needed a complete resto. Anyone know if this was a famous racer, a member here, etc?? Pretty neat car. The guy that had it said he had known the car since the early 70's.

The car is from Elkorn, here in Eastern KY.The last I heard he was asking $30,000 for the car.It has the original paint. He also has tons of N.O.S. parts for the car.The parts were not included in the price of the car the last I heard.
The car looks real good from 20 feet, but does have some rust on the outer skins.Under the car was real nice underneath the last I seen. The motor has one digit that does not match. All other #'s matched the best I remember. He said he talked to Jerry Mcniesh about the #'s before and it would be very unlikely that the motor was wrong.

This car was in the Super Chevy car corral at Indy in July this year also. $34k was the asking price, if I remember correctly.

Sounds like a cool find. LOBO is also the name of a 70s pop love ballad band. I'd go with the spanish for wolf explanation!

yankee i know your car,i used to see alot going by my house, years ago.i know the orginal owner.i dont know if it was race.might have been the lady was a drag racer back in late sixty`s & 70`s. but i don`t think that lobo was the car that she regularly race.but i not sure i didn`t have license to drive then.but i love that car.and wanted one.she has past away, was a heck of a driver,i used to hear the older guys say that she could drive and race as good or better then most men.her husband was her mechanic.she drove & he wrench. he is a real nice guy.i can get you his # if you want.

Hey thanks ragtop. I know that a lady drag racer drove it and she had a speedshop "Bonnies Speedshop" not sure about the car and exactly what class guessing D or E stock or even how much she did race the car. It had the engine builders name lettered on the door, Bonnies Speedeshop on the fenders and the LOBO on the quarters. Someone buffed off the lettering so of course the paint shows signs of this. The husband is still alive i was told but he has a hearing problem. If you got a # that would be great. I suspect she raced car at Cedar hills raceway maybe? Maybe even Bristol? The car needs some resto, but being in such original condition i am not sure how to proceed. I recall as a young kid seeing this car there or at bristol 1970-71 i was 10-11 year old then. My father was a drag racer D/G anglia so i was there i seen all the cool cars of the day "Old Reliable-Grumpy-Sox-and all those ss cars we love so much.
