Part number 1050104. Sold by the gallon and is ready to spray. My dealer cost was $25.00. If not turn to chassis black by Eastwood. Or Catapillar black sold in spray can from your local Cat dealer. Most all of the aftermarket companies sell paint that is very good. Check out my web site pictures, I used mostly Cat black in the gallon can. very nice stuff and has a perfect 30% or so sheen.. Wacky ------------------ 1969 (http://www.hobbystage.net/camaro/wacky) Fully Papered and Documented Coupe. oramac 68 Dec 30th, 02, 05:22 PM if your going to spray with a gun , PPG makes a laquer thats called underhood black, about a 30-40 degree gloss, or you can make your own with flattener added to lacquer or acyric enamel. In spray cans Martin Senor "TEC" line of paints makes a underhood black, but it does not have a hardener in it. camarobird Dec 31st, 02, 09:21 PM This is really good info. I'm restoring my 1968 RS/SS 396/325 Convertible and I greatly would apreciate the same info for the other key areas under the hood. If hood bottom and fenderwells are 30 degree gloss what are the degrees gloss for a factory finish on; 1. firewall (primer?) 2. heater box/heater motor/wiper motor & stuff on the firewall (some is higloss on mine) 3. pulleys and brackets on the motor (50/60 degrees gloss?) 4. chassis (is this less than 30 degrees gloss?) Any input appreciated. SS502 Jan 1st, 03, 03:37 PM Jerry Mcniesh's 69 Z/28 book lists factory finishes for almost all components. I used this info on my first restoration and scored 990/1000, 973/1000 and 911/1000 at some big shows. 68 SS Clone http://my.core.com/~ss502 SS502 Jan 1st, 03, 03:43 PM I forgot to include this info in my reply. Firewall and floor to the back bumper: 30% gloss a little lighter than black Engine brackets and pulleys: 60% gloss Heater Box: 60% gloss Frame: 30% gloss camarobird Jan 1st, 03, 08:33 PM Hello SS502 I have McNiesh's Z28 book and you are correct it is the best organized list. He talks about BLACK "gloss" and "semigloss" in the listing of parts but doesn't define the degree of gloss like you did unless I missed the page? Also I have 1983 NOS GM inner front fenderwells and 1983 NOS GM front clip, firewall top panels and rear quarters. The fenderwells look like 60% gloss while the black primed body panels have a really pronounced sheen like 50% other than the grey primed ones which are dull primer. Any clue on why this is? One last question, the heater motor and wiper motor I have are original and look like 90% gloss, where else is this used? Thanks |
