John is right, there was only 1 - Z28 convertible ever made and that was in 1968 for a GM vice president, its a truly one of a kind car and it might be the most valuable Camaro ever built. :D wish I owned it. Other than that 1 convertible, NO Z28 ragtops were built in 67-68-69

On the one convertible (built in 1968), here is a quote from "Camaro Z28 and Performance Specials" a great book by Jason Scott and David Newhardt (page 32):

"...one car was built to convince Chevy's General Manager Pete Estes that the buying public should be given access to this outstanding musclecar [the Z/28]." Estes was concerned about releasing a race car to the general public, but he loved convertibles. So, they built a convertible Z/28 and, once he drove it, he authorized the release of the Z/28. Man, what a great decision!

The Z/28 had already been released to the public. From what I understand, the reason for the convertible for Pete Estes was to get the JL8 and cross ram set up approved for 1969 production.

Everything I have ever heard about the '68 Z ragtop was that they were not going to continue it in '69 so giving Estes the 'ragtop Z was intended to convince him and it did. As I understand it the one off '68 Z ragtop got the cross ram later in life...

From this news article, it seems like it was built to get the thumbs up for some new production parts.

no such thing as a 69 Z ragtop . Its pretty easy to put Z labels on a car and drop a 302 engine in it.

Jerry, no offense meant by me, or Mr. "Master of the Obvious", but if you would just put a little :D / ;) / :p /
'smiley' in your post then we might have a clue that another 'Master of all things Camaro that Never Were' (we use MCNW for short ) hasn't shown up on the site again ... ;)
The mod's have the unenviable job of trying to keep things from being posted that are missleading, erroneous or ??? and then being taken as fact by the unknowing ( or Non-Masters of the Obvious if you prefer ) and causing them problems in the future.
I know this is a common sense thing - but some just wouldn't take it that way ...
Besides - everyone knows that a '69 RPO-Z28 with Blue Velour Interior required the Blue Convertible Top even with White stripes*

btw - nice looking '69 convert
You wouldn't be in the Glenwood Springs area would you?

*NOTE - for all you accidently coming across this post on a furute search - I'm just 'funnin' folks here - none of this is true :noway:

I see your point, and will add the requisite ;) in the future. I'm sure not dissing the mod, just having my usual fun. Thanks for the tip.

I don't actually have the car anymore, sold it to a guy in the Eagle/Vail area so you may have seen it around Glenwood!

As for the interior, If I remember the trim tag correctly, I believe it originally came with white houndstooth, a very rare option on 69 Z/28 verts. ;)

The brother of my dad's, cousin's, uncle had a first week pre-production 65-1/2 BB, RS/SS, Z28, convertible concept/prototype car. They were thinking about starting off with a 427 so it has a 427 in it. I think it was the L88 motor. He was some big wig with GM and it took 12 weeks to get it built. 1,500 people watched run 10.35 (with slicks) in the 1/4 convertible back in '65-3/4. We had pics but they got burned up in a house fire. The car is in a climate controlled garage somwhere in the northeast midwest. This guy is now a recluse and he won't even let anyone see it but I can get a copy of the paperwork and original BS(buildsheet that is). He does take it to one concourse show every two years and always wins BS (best in show). :D :D :D
