I found an Offenhauser cross ram intake manifold for my 69 camaro. I know the Offy is a clone of original GM cross-ram. I cannot afford the GM version. So, my question is should I go for some streetable 390 CFM Holley's or 600 CFM's similar to the Holley 4295's that came with the GM intake. I want to be able to drive on the street without any carburetion problems.

Get a dual-plane and a Holley 750 if you want simple and streetable.

What is your engine combination (cid, cam, compression, exhaust, etc)? More than likely, a pair of 390s would be more than sufficient for you.

need to make sure the cam and lifter set will match if you go with the offe

I recently read that the cross-rams were intended for all-out racing and actually give pretty poor perfomance on most street machines. BIG loss in low-end HP because they were meant for sustained high-rev use. Yes, there is the 'wow' factor, but keeping one carb adjusted is work enough. Who needs the extra hastle - and expense?

If you're dead set on the cross-ram manifold and plan to live with it's lack of low-end power, I think the 390cfm carbs are a no-brainer.

Good point above about the cam, it would be easy to have a mis-match and an engine that doesn't run really strong at either end of the RPM range. :)

I had a crossram on a 68 Z-28 and it ran like a pig until it was over 3500 rpm's. I took it off.

I think everyone knows by now that the crossram is good for the oooh factor only. I'll have one myself someday.

I have this intake on my full roller 409 sb. I have two small holley vac 2nds 600s. carbs set at 68pri and 75sec. It makes 505hp at 5700rpm and 515lb @ 4400. It made 453LB at 2600rpm. It took some work, tuning and dyno time but it works very well. O and it has a bit of wow factor. Just my 2 cents. timing was set at 37. It can work and it looks so cool!!! BTY dont use the linkage...its crap
