thanks guys is there anything else with the sequence of numbers that could tell if this was an ss car. seller told me it was an early build no x code. its a non number match so i know this is next to impossible but would like to know if there is anything else either with the vin sequence or cowl tag or equipment on the car i can look for that may or may not, likely or not likely make it an ss. the car has a 396 , 4 spd . if i can figure out how to post jpg pics i will. thanks

im not really sure but dont think there is anything in # on vin or cowl that tell you its a ss..others here can help you with signs like bigger brake lines and placement of hangers and such can point to a ss..good luck love to see pics when you get them..

Does it have an SS hood (easy to change/fake)?

Does it have SS hood springs (28 coils, often overlooked)?

Does it have one or two fuel lines (and do they look OE)?

Does it have front power disc brakes, and do they look OE?

Do the heater core nipples/hoses exit from the middle of the heater box cover, or through the firewall (easy to change)?

Does it have a 12-bolt that lines up with the car's build date?

Is the 4-speed a Muncie? Is it original to the car (partial VIN stamp)? Does the speedo cable exit the firewall to the left or right of the brake booster when viewed from the front? Does the car have the correct BB 4-speed trans crossmember?

Have you had the rear seat back out to look for factory markings on the rear seat back brace (your car is not too early to see an X2 or X6 if the seat brace hasn't been repainted or weathered)?

Does it have a reinforcing plate welded to the driver frame rail behind the axle to hang dual exhaust (can be added)?

Danny, fisher body not far from my 12A non X code tag. Might want to check the id on the rear end, to see if its in the same time frame as 10C. Right front axle tube, midway between carrier and spring perch.

eric, the speedo cable exits the firewall to the left of the brake booster if looking at it from the front of the car. no idea what that means. does anyone?

Assuming it's factory, it means the car at least had a Muncie 4-speed.

My friends camaro has a build date of 10C and it has an X code. The body number on his is NOR135227 so that would mean it was built before yours, I think. It just struck me as odd that yours does not have the X code and his does. His car has been discussed on here and there is a picture of the tag in the thread "strange color combo" if you want to do a search and see it.

Stephanie, that's because your friends car was built the 3rd week of October, 1969, where Dannys car was built the 3rd week of October, 1968!

I believe this car was built in 1969, october , third week. Danny's information makes me think his was built in 1968, october

Oh, I did not realize that. The body numbers were only 6,666 numbers apart so it did not make sense to me. Sorry for any confusion.

Gm reset the numbers at some point and it does create confusion. My 10E(69) X code is body number 158756 Vin 706979. That's 23529 from yours in 2 weeks. I think it's closer to the 10c 68 car.

I know I still have a lot to learn. The longer than normal production year in '69 screwed me up. I'll get this figured out sooner or later.

this guy is selling a 67 ss 350 so he says i want to know if it is a real ss. the vin is
124377N192656 and the casting number is CKB code casting #3970010 and he said it came with a 2bbl carb that means it had like 175hp i think? i thought ss came with 4bbl carbs and it was a 350 with 295 300 or 375hp if u could let me know that would be great. i wasnt sure how to post my own question so i thought i would do this sorry

Umm, use the Post New Topic button instead of the Post Reply button.
Make sure you are in the correct forum and not in a thread. It should be on top.

And that is not the original motor for the car you posted
