I don't see a tech section on exhaust so thought I would post here.

I need to purchase a complete exhaust system to hook to the stock exhaust manifolds for my 69 Z28. I would like it to have stainless steel pipes, a stock looking stainless crossflow muffler and polished stainless tips that exit out the rear as original. Do you have any suggestions on a system that you have used and were happy with? I tried the site sponser Pypes and their group purchase but no one from their company responded to me so I will move on to another option.

Thanks for your input!

Pypes makes a nice product and they are reasonable. I think they have a live chat on their website you might want to try, or give them a call.

Ditto. Once you talk with him you'll know you found the right one.

I put the exact system you described abiove on my 69 and I bought it all from Rick's. It was a direct bolt up system complete with clamps, just like the factory. It also has the polished angled tail pipes. I love it and put it on myself.

Was the last system purchased since they were bought by Ecklers? Maybe a new supplier as in "Cheaper"!

Is the chambered exhaust the only option he offers? That is all that I see on the site. Also, what is the price for the system and the hanger kit? Nothing about pricing on their site.

Thank you for the website!

How long ago did you purchase their system? Before or after Ecklers?

Thank you for responding!

Re-sellers like Rick's don't often make their own stuff. I bought a system from them for the 68 in 99 and it was great. I looked into the ones they had last year for the 69, and the quality appeared to have changed enough (I forget who was bending them) that I passed. I bought an aluminized system from Stainless Works that I had some fit issues with (mine's a vert), but it looked like a decent out of the box system for a coupe. It's not technically correct, but it was reasonable at about $400. I have pictures of the tailpipes if you need them. Overall, I'm not strongly recommending them because of the issues I had, but for a coupe maybe it's fine.

Gardner's does sell normal (non-chambered) systems. If you call and talk to Eric Gardner, he'll give you all the info. They come with correct hardware (and hangers, I think), and are bar none the top, technically correct system you can get. That's the good news. The not so good is that they're in the neighborhood of $800 for an aluminized system with chrome tips.

I am not going to be showing the car (I hate car shows) so it does not have to be technically correct. I just want a nice stainless system with a crossflow muffler, polished tips and a nice loud roar!!

Well, then you're going to want to look at something other than an OE style replacement, probably. They don't exactly give off a nice load roar.

Flowmaster or the Pypes kit.

Flo 17139 is a 2 muffler system, but it has beautiful tips (look at JimM's car to see the tailpipes, or search here). The tailpipes are sold separate, but I don't think they fit Flo's transverse system (17104) directly.

The Pypes system is decent, and they at least offer the downpipes you need to connect to manifolds. I think their number is SGF70, summit sells it for $500 and it says stainless (seems cheap for an entire stainless system). My only complaint abot the Pypes system is that when I looked at them last year and some of the cars I have seen with them on, the transverse muffler was crooked and it made the tailpipes crooked. Maybe they've improved, or maybe the crookedness can be fixed during install. Don't know...

I purchased it in 2004, so it was before Ecklers. It is stainless. I believe it was around $800.

I would disagree, it definately has the muscle car sound/roar and yes it is the transverse single muffler dual exhaust system.

I am sure it was supplied to Ricks by an outside source. I am thinking flowmaster or something similar. I remember when it came it had a name brand on the boxes.

the best system and most correct out there is Gardner. they are exactly like original, in looks and function, they fit perfect, and easy to install. I bought a 396 with flow masters on it and threw them in the garbage on day 2. sounds like S__ __ T. will actually give you a migraine.

Ditto with Gardners. Talk to Eric. You tell him you got a 69 Z with stock manifolds and you want the OEM dual exhaust. You dont have to have the chrome tipped tail pipes, that adds a few more bucks to the price. He made my system for my plane jane, boxed it up and sent it to me here in Germany. I installed it myself, with a litle help from the Frau. I got the nicest sounding muscle car in my village.
