Hey Guys,
I just picked up a 69 Z in Noblesville, IN that I was told was in Hot Rod (maybe another popular magazine) in the 70's. The car has a wild 70's paint job with rear wheel flares and beach scenes etc. all over the car. Im assuming this is why it was in the magazine.
The guy I bought the car from bought it from a dealer in Westfield, IN July of 1980. He said the magazine story was given to him by the dealer he bought it from. He does not know anymore than that.
I spoke with the original owner last night on the phone and he traded the car in at at a dealer in Anderson, IN 1972. With its factory paint and no modifacations.
So, here is where I need all the experts here at TC's help. I want to find out what magazine this car was in and try to find a copy. I have from 1972 thru 1980 with no history on the car and was obviosly when this wild paint was applied to this car. that is 8 years.
Any Ideas???? Maybe I will get lucky and some one here may remember it:hurray: I am going to try and get some pics of the car back in the day and will also take some in the present condition. It is partially stripped down as the last owner sriped paint here and there on the car.
One thing that may ring a bell with some one--- It has "WHITE LIGHTNIN" in large letters on the front spoiler. The base color on the car is white with lots of blue strpes and scenery etc.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

I also found the painters autograph on the car "paint by Temple" and in another place near by "paint by Steve" So I think his name is Steve Temple. Any body heard of him?

Perhaps send a pic to David Friedman and see if it rings a bell with him.

David Friedman is the editor of Hot Rod and has a good knowledge of the industry. He may have seen your car in an issue of Hot Rod or another magazine. If you go to their website I'm sure you can find an address. Happy hunting. What a journey.

WOW. Quite a piece of history there. That is typical 70's to the max.

Yes it is. Unfortuantly the guy I bought it from had started striping it here and there and everywhere he did was where there was a cool scene painted. He says he thinks the only pic he has when this car was still on the road( pre 1980) has him in it--and he is naked:o I told him to go to wal mart and make a copy and use a sharpie on it before he gives it to me.

Im hoping to find the painter ( Steve Temple) and maybe he can tell me what magazine the car was in and when. Im sure we will see some awesome 70's art work in those pics, and at the same time help fill the 8 year gap of history on this car. Thanks everyone!!!! Im still needing all the help I can get on this one, including some NOS quarters and fenders:thumbsup:
