My car is down to just a shell. The windows are in the up position. They are power windows.

Any advice how to get them off the car???

did you try connecting a battery to the motor?

Just get some wire to make 2 jumper leads. Connect them to the leads on the motor/harness. Then and you can lower them with a 9v battery. Don't laugh... it works. Lower them down enough to get at the attachment bolts on the window. When I was installing the Painless harness in my car I used a single 9v battery and a $5.00 multi meter to check all of the circuts as I did them. When I was done with the wiring, no supprises, everything worked prefectly (and still does).

OK, I have the battery and the leads ready toopen the window.

The connector that I pulled off the back of the switch has 3 leads (red center, green and purple on the outside). I tried combinations of all and it didn't work. Is one a ground? I got a little spark when it connected to the green and purple, but that was it.

I tried the red with the green and the red with the purple...nothing...only when I tried the green and purple together did I get a spark.

Any suggestion? :confused::confused::confused:

you might have to swap the negative and the positive and try again
I am not sure how 1st gen power windows are wired, but some go up when the polarity is one way and down when the polarity is reversed

just unplug it at the motor. i dont remember how it was done at the switch. at the motor, put neg to ground and the other one to one of the contacts at the motor. one is for up and the other is for down. i believe that is how i did it before.

Thanks, but I'm having trouble getting to the motor.

The side interor panel is covering the area where the motor would be and I can't get the panel off because the window is in the up position?

My guess is to get it to work, Negative from the battery to the car door. Positve to the green or purple. Hope that helps And remmeber they run on smoke so if you let the all smoke out they're no good anymore.

Are you using the 9V battery someone suggested or a 12 volt car battery?
I doubt a small 9V battery has the current to power an old electric window motor under load.
Use a 12V car battery and an inline fuse holder with a 5 amp fuse to make sure you don't let the smoke out

the red would be your hot so for what you are doing, you dont need to worry about this one. hook you pos. of the battery to either one of the green or hot. put the neg to a good ground and it should move the window up or down.

I'll give this a try. When I put the green or pruple to the positive and the negitive to a ground, I got a spark. It might in fact just not be enough juice to move this old motor.

I'll try the car battery.

Did I mention that I found a soup can in the mechanism?

IT WORKED!!!:hurray::hurray::hurray:

The windows are down, finally.

Fantastic and Thanks!!!

Now...

How do I get the chrome moldings off of the top of the doors and quarters without wrecking them.
