I have a 69z with console. It has a flat hurst shifter handle and a matching rubber boot. It was in the car when I brought it in 78. Can I replace the handle with a round one or do I have to change the complete shifter assembly to make it look original. I would appreciate any help.

The flat handle means the shifter is an aftermarket shifter body (probably a competition plus) which bolts to the arm. I have heard a people drilling holes in a round shifter arm and bolting them on. I would not ruin an original one, but if you can find a repro one or one that already has been drilled, go for it. :)
