My 68SS was painted with Imron about 20 yrs ago and according to the previous owner the paint had blisters in it when he picked it up from the body shop. He told me that they used stripper instead of sanding the car and that the lead in the body seams caused the problems. Im gonna paint the car back to the original color soon and wanted some suggestions about the best way to remove the old paint and get a quality paint job in the end. Suggestions?????? Kevin

68SS 396/375 L-78 Thats because it is impossible to tell what is best for You're particular car without seeing it in person...
I've seen about every kind of removal method/system posted in here before...
Personally, if I was mine and I were convinced that it had to be completely stripped to metal (yet another debate by some ppl) I would have it "media blasted"...it is worth the money considering all the time spent and the fumes, dust etc. with other methods...

I don't know if I'll be of much help, but I'm using a DA sander to strip my '69 down to bare metal. I'm going slooooow (I started back in July of last year) and I'm almost done stripping it, then I've got to get some bodywork and rust spots repaired before I primer it, block sand it and have it repainted.
I started to use paint stripper but changed my mind after I used some on the front fenders and switched to using the DA. I don't have Imron paint on it so I can't comment on how that would affect it. But I do know I won't have to worry about the stripper getting into something that'll bite me later on. I've got photos of my project status in my signature.

Different people have different ideas about stripping a car, but I'll say this: If you use a chemical stripper, make absolutely sure you get every last bit of the chemical off the surface before you do anything else. Chemical left on sheet metal will bubble the paint every time.

Look for Zip-Strip at your favorite hardware store, get the original paste type. It works as good as any I've tried. You can get it in pint sizes (in case you run out and you don't need a whole gallon) and it's often on sale.
Send me an e-mail and I'll forward an article to you on "how I painted my car"

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I feel sure that the bubbles in the Imron on the car now is from stripper not being properly cleaned after using. The car , luckily, has no rust at all on it and straight as an arrow. Thanks! Kevin
