I have a 12 bolt rear that I was told was from a 1970 Z28. I am trying to find out what it really is.

The rear is 55 1/4" flange to flange, and 43 3/8" center of leaf spring pad to center of leaf spring pad.

The numbers on the housing are: GM2 D - ? N

& #3969278

The axle code is KD.

Can anyone help? I am really trying to help my dad out with this.

Thanks

Rich...Alan Colvin states that the 69-72 Chevelle era 12 bolt housing is the same width as the 70 Camaro...it is not a 1970 Camaro 12 bolt by the casting number you provided....that might be a Chevelle center section casting number...maybe it has the upper control arm ears ground off if it doesnt have them? Also CKD is a 1970 Chevelle 12 bolt 2.73 geared rearend..so maybe thats what it is...lastly they might have just welded the leaf spring brackets to the rearend look to see if you see old bracketry cut or ground off....hope that helps, Ron

KD is a 71 or 72 Chevelle with a 2.73 ratio.
