When I bought my 69 Camaro it came without the fender "Camaro" and "SS" emblems installed. I do have the holes where they go. Has anyone been able to install these without taking the fender off. I looked and I see no way of getting the self tapping nuts on the post of the emblems. I am thinking of just putting some silcone sealent on the posts and hope they hold. An7y help would be greatly appreshated.

You can probably pull the bolts out of the inner fender, and the bottom of the fender, spring it open enough to reach your hand in and get at the bolts. With the inner fender loose, the lower fender section should spring out easily, without bending it.
Be careful to protect the leading edge of your door with tape.

Blk69, the paint store around me sells these things/anchors (I am not sure what they are called) that allow you to put the emblems on without the bolts. Basically, here is how they work...you take the emblems to the store and get the right sizes. drill the holes to fit the anchors. stick that anchor in the hole and then press the emblem into the anchor. They work kinda like a drywall anchor. Let me know if you can't get any, maybe I can pick a handful up for you. Hope this helps.

They're called "barrel nuts"; but they're also kinda obvious, as the little flange on the end won't let the emblems seat flush on the surface.

My big problem John is that I cannot get back behind the emblen to attach the Barrel nut.

JohnZ is correct, but you would not notice mine unless I pointed them out and you looked really hard. The idea is that you do not have to get behind the fender. The barrel nut slips into the drilled hole and then you push the emblem directly into it. The barrel nut expands inside the fender and anchors itself. The only downside is that the drilled holes are slightly bigger than the emblem holes w/out the barrel nuts.

I will have to see if they have any of these barrel nuts at my local paint store. Thank you all for your input.

Another solution if you don't want to drill holes is to remove the tips on the back side of the emblem and use emblem adheasive that all of our parts books sell. Once dried, they will not come off unless you pry them off, and saves your car from extra holes.

I just installed my "Camaro" emblems on my 69's front fenders. Since I couldn't reach the back side to install the nuts I just drilled some holes anyway. The holes are tight so the emblem does not want to slip out. I put some emblem adhesive on the emblem studs and the freshly drilled holes. Then, pushed the emblems on. Done! So far so good.
