I am in the process of changing my 69 over from a PG to a th350. I know there are lots of posts that cover this but there are a few things that are not covered. I see I can get the trans linkage from shift works but will the rod that comes from the side of frame/bottom of steering column, hook to this linkage on the side of the trans? It looks like it wont? If so, will I needed a longer/shorter rod or will the old one work? What is this…neutral safety? Also I know I need a horseshoe shifter assembly, lens to indicate the “gear” , bezel, and cable. What else am I missing? Is there any other parts within the console I need? If I get a PG shifter on ebay will that work? Some posts say you will need a different detent. Others say no? Lastly, will my crossmember work? Thanks much.

The rods are for the neutral safety. I do not know if they will fit. But try first because they have a good chance of fitting.
The crossmember will also fit. The horseshoe shifter will have a different detent but otherwise will fit. The cable mounting bracket on the trans case is different. Also TH350 uses a cable and bracket for the transmission control and a different vacuum tube for the modulator.

The rod you are asking about is the lockout rod. The spring loaded shaft from the frame to the trans is a leveraging device to remove slack and to provide maybe, a place for the lockout rod.

If the lever on the trans has a second hole next to the shifter cable hole, in fact, there is a stub with nut to bolt into the aft hole because 68 & 69 are cable shifted, the lockout rod goes into the forward hole.

The lockout rod has a pinch bolt at the column lever to adjust the stroke/length for pushing up the column lever so the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK and key can be pulled out. Or, tywrap the column lever in the up postion to permanently be able to remove the key.

This lockout rod, also with internal linkage inside the column, not only allows the switch to go to LOCK position, but also locks the steering wheel lock pin to engage into the lock plate removing the ability to turn the steering wheel.

On a 69 TH400 that linkage is for the steering lock/ anti theft, not neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch is just a switch on the horse shoe assembly.

Everett beat me to it .

Yes. The rods are for steering wheel / ignition lock on a horseshoe shift car. I forgot about that difference.
