View Full Version : Brake Light/Fuel Light 98blackburb Sep 25th, 07, 05:39 PM Brakes are bleed and fluid is topped off, brake light still on...Fuel Light on also..any ideas?? Thanks guys Badbird Sep 25th, 07, 06:13 PM Brake light switch....Try resetting by disci=onnecting and connecting the wire:thumbsup: spideynut Sep 25th, 07, 08:45 PM Is this in a first gen? If so it's prob. your e-brake wire ( I think its brown). And the fuel lights either grounding wrong ,faulty low fuel inducator or you need gas? 98blackburb Sep 26th, 07, 03:48 PM Sorry 1969 camaro SS.......thanks for the help....alan spideynut Sep 26th, 07, 08:26 PM That would be a first gen. Have you tried to fool with it? JimM Sep 26th, 07, 08:38 PM The brake light is an "active ground circuit" that runs the same (well. two...) brown wires to both the switch on the brake distribution block and the ebrake pedal switch. Disconnect them one at a time, see which is the culprit, go from there. 98blackburb Sep 27th, 07, 02:34 PM At present time car has no emergency brake... is there a switch that goes behind this pedal ?? dnult Sep 27th, 07, 03:01 PM To add to what Jim M stated...the so-called proportioning valve under the master cylinder can get lodged one way or the other during a bleed. There is a shuttle valve that measures the pressure difference between the front and the rear circuit. If both front and rear brake systems are working correctly, the pressure should be equal and the shuttle valve stays centered - preventing the light from coming on. During a bleed, the shuttle valve can get pushed off center. Sometimes you can recenter it by bleeding the opposite system. It's a cut-and-try process that requires you to monitor the light while pressurizing and bleeding the system (front or rear) until the light goes out. I've also seen the shuttle valve get so cruddy that once it's off-center, it's essentially stuck and must be replaced. As Jim said, start by disconnecting the wire to the valve to see if the light goes out. Next disconnect the e-brake wire. Yes, there should be a brown wire with a switch on it near the left side where the e-brake is mounted. The switch mounts to the e-brake bracket. JimM Sep 27th, 07, 05:02 PM if the ebrake pedal is gone, look for a lone brown wire around the top of the drivers side kick panel. It's probaby trapped behind the kick and groundiung on the body there. 98blackburb Sep 27th, 07, 06:01 PM Thanks for all the replies guys, you are so helpful...........thanks....alan |
