: Interior Color
Microgiant Sep 25th, 07, 06:37 PM I have bought a 69 RS/SS 427 X-22 car. The original colors were Garnet red with Maroon interior. I dont mind the exterior color but I would find it hard to live with Red on Red. Would it hurt the value much to go Garnet red with Black interior?
Thanks
z10kl Sep 25th, 07, 06:54 PM Just sell it to me and get you another with black interior. Red on Red is different and looks great. Is it delux or standard interior?
Rack Man Sep 25th, 07, 06:55 PM I say yes....that it will indeed hurt the value...But do what makes you happy!
To me...I think it would be a cool, rare color combo and an excellent conversation piece....Everybody and thier brother has a black interior.

L7869 Sep 25th, 07, 07:14 PM try and keep it original. there is enough changed and fake crap in this great hobby of ours. enough to make you sick
Unreal Sep 26th, 07, 07:35 AM If that 427 is original, I'd say you truly have a rare car!! Keep in all factory.
Actually, seems like there were a few X22 COPOs. The first batch were all X66 (all Yenko) but most of the others were X44 (w/o style trim) with a few X11 (w/ style trim.)
Anyone know what Sandlin's RS COPO is? I've seen it, but I don't remember if I even looked at the trim tag.
Microgiant Sep 26th, 07, 10:46 AM Unfortunatly the original 427 is long gone. It will come with a 1974 CE 454 with Hipo heads. I will go ahead and do this red on red. I agree that it will be a very good conversation piece. When someone asks "is that the original colors?" it sure will be nice to be able to say yes.
Eric Kammerer Sep 26th, 07, 10:56 AM Have you seen a Garnet car with the Medium Red interior? There is actually quite a bit of contrast. The correct code 52 Garnet color isn't bright or real red (I think it tends toward a maroon), while the Medium Red vinyl is red. There's a shot of a 69 vert in this combo in a book I have, and it's pretty nice and different from every Resale Red with black vinyl 69 that's out there (no offense meant to the red/black folks out there, but there are an awful lot with that combo).
77thor Sep 26th, 07, 04:11 PM I'm with you.... couldn't stand a red interior.... and I wouldn't consider buying a car with it.
Change it to BLACK.

Who are you with on this ?...Eric is stating that Red on Red looks nice....and I agree!
Why don't you show a little respect to the members on this board and quit capping on their rides!
One of the great things about these cars are all of the colors and options that you could get....I thinks It's awesome to see all of these different combinations just as they were on the showroom floors back in the 60's...
Oh, I forgot that your a 2nd gen kinda guy, so you probably wouldn't understand....Sorry!

If you think the original motor was a 427, you might do some studying on what to look for to confirm COPO. It's a long shot, but worth the effort, IMO. Rear end code, sway bar size, factory cowl induction grommet hole, single fuel line, come to mind.

Couldn't agree more.
I love to see the all the different colour combos, and besides everybody has black interior.
Microgiant Sep 27th, 07, 11:27 PM I think the seller may have decoded this wrong. The Interior color code on the vin tag is 711. If Im not mistaken that is standard black interior? I get the car on Saturday and I will start to take inventory. It is mostly apart. It also had 4 wheel discs, factory trac bars, 12 bolt rear, AC. Here are some pics. The original owner had the blown motor replaced with a GM counter exchange 454. The current seller was trying to get more because of that fact, but I didnt let that change what I was willing to pay. Still he got a very fair price.
The original hood is missing, what should I look for, for COPO, anyone? TIA

Microgiant Sep 27th, 07, 11:29 PM Oh and that red on red really doesnt look bad. At least not when its clean :D
z10kl Sep 28th, 07, 05:41 PM Dual fuel lines= no copo. No factory AC either, just has ac dash pad. 396 325 or 350 horse. Still a nice combo to restore with the RS option. Black interior code solves your problem deciding.
Microgiant Sep 28th, 07, 05:51 PM Well I guessed it HAD AC from the Dashpad. Im not 100% sure. I will find out tomorrow what I have!
Eric Kammerer Sep 28th, 07, 07:25 PM Ummm... I know the car is bought, so I hate to bring this up, but...
The side and top edge of the dash metal, where overspray wound up in the Norwood paint shop; does anybody else see that as Frost Green? It sure isn't Garnet. This area almost never gets painted during a repaint, so if my eyes are okay, and that dash is original and green...
Then, I get looking at the fuzzy trim tag pic, and I'd like to see a clear one. In the fuzzy one, the rivets scare me a little. Is the VIN something like 124379N567xxx? I hope it has a mid late Dec 68 VIN.
Microgiant Sep 29th, 07, 11:16 PM OK heres what I have so far about the "Easy Money" Car lol, tell me if what you think. Clear pics coming soon, its too dark for pics, interior lights are not working in my trailer for some reason. I just got back from 14hr round trip to Dallas and yes I am at the point of no return. After leaving today with all the cool original 69 parts I almost felt guilty. :o
The 1974 454 Counter Exchange motor is very nice and would fetch a hefty sum. Not including the original 69 distributor, factory alum manifold, 4 speed trans etc. The traction bars were added at the dealer. I have all the numbers I will post later if you like.
There is no green overspray, there is plenty of garnet red all over the place though. BTW it had NO AC. Just the vents for AC. and one fuel line. though the original owner had that changed for some reason to 2. And a 427 BBC originally.

December 3rd week... right? OMG!!! Im starting a thread on the tag team forum (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?p=861137#post861137), I have lots of part numbers etc.
The seller says he was very close friends with the original owner. And when he was killed in a boating accident, somehow involving Dennis Rodmans boat, he inherited the car. The car has been mothballed since 1983 so this is like a Barn find imo. I dont think I will be able to sleep tonight. I keep going outside and looking in my trailer to make sure its real, then locking it back up like it was Fort Knox
Im trying to get more details about the orig owner, but he had connections at a Chevy dealership I was told.
One thing tho. He had a lot of extra parts. He said I could help myself and I took some stuff, left behind the old headers and pipes. that wasnt a mistake was it?. They were a bit rusty but useable but I figure I will get ceramic/stainless. I was thinking they were prob just old aftermarket. But I can call him if I need to.
Microgiant Sep 30th, 07, 09:55 AM OK heres the trim tag. I picked at the stuff in the rivets with my fingernail and it seems like white caulk. Does this look like a real VIN tag to you all? If worse comes to worse I can part this out for what I paid. But there are so many indicators. I have pics I can post. Someone removed the original guage carrier and guages and center console. But I have a few of the broken parts. They obviously ripped it all out. I have the original rosewood glovebox and trim. bunches of parts, the car is not completely original but thats understandable.

VINTAGE CAMARO Sep 30th, 07, 08:58 PM Nice find. Interesting confict within the interior colors though, trim tag says 711, original dash metal, shows frost green. HMMMMMM
al8apexer Oct 1st, 07, 12:55 AM ok, this is why everyone says it looks like the dash is frost green:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/JimRohn/nova/69grndash.jpg
Microgiant Oct 1st, 07, 09:07 AM Oooh that frost green. Yeah that might be bad. Where are the hidden vins? The replacement fender on the left has some green overspray as well though it looks like this was done back when the car was red. It will be Monday before I have an answer for you all. If he sold me a stolen car things are about to get very ugly for him. Theres a paper trail a mile wide. And hes not exactly a nobody, he has a lot to lose. I know people do stupid things sometimes too...

Microgiant Oct 1st, 07, 11:23 AM Im not going to be able to wait. Im going to head out tonight at 9pm when I get off work to check the VINs. This is driving me nuts.
Microgiant Oct 1st, 07, 10:43 PM OK let what happened to me be a lesson for all you other newbs out there. Looks like my story will have a happy ending but for a while there I was pretty worried.
I just got back from where my trailer is stored. I have some pics of the green dash. Thats actually a extra dash, complete with another VIN that he gave me to use to replace the original dash. Someone cut up the original dash. Here are some picks so you all can see the car is legit.
The hidden vin number all match the original dash.

Eric Kammerer Oct 2nd, 07, 09:41 AM Whew!
And you have it wrong in your other thread... no 12 or 13 step program is enough to cure FGFBF (First Generation F-Body Fever).
If it makes you feel better, the 69 I have now is the third I have had. When I looked it over the first time, all I saw was a solid 69 vert roller with new (80s NOS) GM sheetmetal installed. It wasn't until I got it home that I noticed the 6 cylinder VIN... Eventually, I came to embrace it because I don't have to try at "cloning/recreating" an SS, because anyone that knows will shoot it down the minute they see the 123 VIN.
If I had just drug home a legit X-22, it wouldn't leave my sight. :)

I was siding with Microgiant(Timothy), he said...""I would find it hard to live with Red on Red""... and I was just voicing an opinion, so settle down. I wasn't slamming anyone and I don't think that anyone else took it that way. But now you're disrespecting me? What's with that?
