View Full Version : 67 camaro console
johnny67 Sep 26th, 07, 12:07 AM I have my console taken apart and I want to paint it the correct black. I'm thinking that the body of the console should be 60% gloss and the shift plate 100% gloss. Would that be correct? I have a black deluxe interior.
Rack Man Sep 26th, 07, 05:58 AM I Thought I recall the body of the console as being 30% gloss....same as the top of the dash?

blue ss Sep 26th, 07, 06:07 AM Good question I painted mine gloss black it looks good but was it suposed to be? I did find that you cant use much paint unless you strip the old. It seems to fill the grain easy and become to smooth looking.
Daral Sep 26th, 07, 06:30 AM Look at this thread and search "oven cleaner" you will get lots of good advise.

johnny67 Sep 29th, 07, 10:31 AM okay, I will go with a 30% gloss for the console body.
How about the shift plate? should that also be 30% gloss in the center area?
:beers:
67for/me Sep 29th, 07, 03:05 PM I did mine in rustoleum satin black. I think it is the right sheen..But did not have to paint around the shifter

Let me know if you find the arm and spring for the console. I have not painted mine yet, but I need those parts also.
Very nice, by the way!
Daral Oct 11th, 07, 02:51 PM You can get parts for these several places. NPD has the hinge (#10242) and the spring (#12016) for the console door. Your console looks great.
Frankrentef Oct 11th, 07, 06:42 PM O.K. dum question... how does one buy 30% gloss paint? Is this a custom mix? I'm needing to do my 67 interior dash (black interior) and need advise on the acquiring the paint.

The spring and arm are for 68-69 consoles but they sure do look similar. And for $10 I am willing to give it a try. Unless someone out there has already tried it.

For 30% gloss try semi flat black "Krylon 1613"
or Rustoleum satin black#7777
I could not find those here in Canada so I used
Plastikote T-8 Satin black 70% or
Plastikote T-3 hotrod black which is a 50%. I'm guessing on the Plastikote glossiness but I definitely know that the hotrod black is much less glossier
