Hi,
This is my first post so please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section. I am interested in purchasing the new redesigned 3" X-pipe dual exhaust system (SGF63) from Pypes. Has anyone installed one of these yet? If so how did it fit? Any problems with clearance or incorrect bends. It will be going on my 69 coupe with 396 and long tube headers. Thanks in advance.

I looked at these the other weekend at the charlotte autofaire, they were a vender and had a setup. Their product looked good, nothing exceptional but this is simply an exhaust system. Your looking at 400 for the exhaust and roughly another 100 for shipping & tax for the basic sgf63.

If it were me I would scout around for the local exhaust guru and ask him how much to do basicly the same setup. I know where I am at the local guru would save me about 100-125 depending on the muffler I chose.

These kits are cool and all but are made to take advantage of peoples deep pockets, and provide those in outlying areas with no access to a real good exhaust shop custom setups. I am not ragging on pypes by no means I am putting all mail order exhaust kits in the same basket.

Thanks for the reply. I checked on prices for an exhaust system in the town I live in and can get one installed system for the same money. The ones from my local shops aren't stainless and they have an H pipe instead of X pipe. They also aren't mandrel bent. It would be installed and welded though. Kind of a trade off. I don't want to buy a kit then have to take it to a shop anyways because the pieces don't fit right. If anyone has had a good experience with an exhaust kit please let me know.

There is no way it should cost as much for the shop to do the exhuast and it:

1. Not be stainless
2. H pipe, not X pipe
3. Not Mandrel bent

I would look for a shop that can do mandrel bending, it is worth it. If you do not have shop capable of duplicatign the system for less than the pypes total cost then go for the pypes. Like I said earlier these kits are costly but a must if you have no shop around you that can do the same for you.

P.S all kits will be close but no 100% match, because each car is different their could be variences in the way each hangs on a car.

I think way too much emphasis is put on mandrel bending the tertiary pipes, and way too little emphasis on the proper design of the rest of the system. Proper selection of primary tube size and length, collector configuration, length and termination will make a much greater difference than a few bends in the tailpipe. You can buy mandrel bent tailpipes for most cars from outfits like Flowmaster and have your local exhaust shop weld them up to fit your car.
