I am literally minutes from my first start up,I'm putting antifreeze in the radiator and notice a small puddle.Really hoping I had a loose hose clamp something simple ya know....Nah! After much looking its the back plate on the water pump is not tight on one bolt and leaking. This is a totally chromed out aftermarket rig that has the compressor, waterpump, alternator and P.S. pump on a V-drive set up that looks really cool....but not easy to get on and off. Well...I had to drain everything down, tear it down, tighten the back plate, and got it back on with all hoses reattached ,AND THATS ALL, until the silicone dries and I can fill it in the morning to check for leaks...Really hoping for a start today...have to wait till tomorrow...whats that saying,Patience is a virtue!

HOLY COW!!....My 68, which is also a frame off resto project, hasn't moved under it's own power, except in the back yard, since I purchased it back in April of 2005!!.....It should have been on the street this summer, didn't happen!!.....Then again, it should have been on the street 2 1/2 weeks ago but those bubbles in the front wheel cylinders are pissing me off and I completely ran out of patience!!......Perhaps next week???

Well, got her fired up today, started out amusing...I pulled the HEI and spun up the oil pump, put the HEI back in...all else was good, motor on 10 BTDC,HEI sitting on #1 and....nothin....spinning over, got gas...nothing....check fire, forgot to hook back up quick disconnect on HEI.Hooked it up and spun all of 2 revolutions and BAMMMM fires right up. Then 10 minutes in to cam break in I blow a P.S. pump hose...weird but it blew the end right off of it.So thats got me a little weirded out about the cam break-in time, what do you guys think? I've got the G.M. crate 350/330 hp. How bout some of you guys who have this motor chiming in aboutyour tuning specs as far as timing, idle speed for manual shift etc.I tell ya I had it outside to start it so worst case senario I wouldnt burn my shop down if I had a disaster...and backing it back into my shop under power for the first time in 3 years was the best 20 ft I ever drove the car...really a great day!

Congrats man!....Was it the high pressure hose or the return hose?

Awesome! Lots of fun. Nothing smells better than fresh engine paint as the engine warms!

On first start I stalled my engine while breaking in the cam 'cause I was tweaking the carb as the engine ran. After getting everything restarted I continued breaking it in and everything worked great. I was around 20 min into it. Once you restart just pick up where you left off - I recommend.

Congrats on firing her up, just remember to run thru your neighbor hood after dark so you wake up all the neighbors, my first test drive was close to midnight and everyone heard it!!!

Congrats man!....Was it the high pressure hose or the return hose?

High pressure side...and it blew P.S. fluid all over my beautiful engine bay...oh well it"ll clean up,I would have been alot more bent out of shape about that had the engine not started so easily.

Do you have break gunk in stuff for the cam, if so make sure you flush it all out ,ie take rocker covers off to check oil flow, friend of mine fitted new cam broke in flushed out, 2 wks later top end went as no oil was getting to the top due to the gunk having dried in the oil ways.

Well, today was the first day of the rest of my camaros life! After getting the P.S. hose fixed, everything wiped down, working out some bugs with my electric fan, timing and adjusting everything...bleeding out the brakes one last time for good measure...out the driveway I went!!!!Now my car has no glass in it but the windshield,no trunk or hood on it so it got some attention from my neighbors.I live a a long straight residential road with minor traffic so after doing the G.M brake-in stuff for a while on the last pass I had to step on it a little.Got to the end of the street and took her up through the gears taching to about 4-grand each shift and let me tell ya it was the most fun you can have with yer cloths on...by the way if you are even remotely considering a Tremec 5-spd conversion you just gotta do it, with out a doubt the best upgrade hands down I have made in the whole frame off,its just not even the same car and just a scream to drive!!! Its been a great day!

67pat,

any chance you can send some pics of your alternator brackets and pulley setup. I've got the same crate motor and am starting the process of getting the accessories hooked up.

thanks,
rob
