I am in the process of putting new Moog K5108 upper ball joints on my 68. The holes in the a-arm don't line up with the holes in the ball joint. When I line up the holes on one side the holes on the other side are a whole 1/2 hole off. I managed to force the bolts in but that doesn't seem right. The only other number I see on the ball joint itself is 60097F. I've read past post's for this and it seems unclear. I have purchased the correct part numbers but they don't fit.

it sounds like you have ball joints for a second gen.

I ran into the opposite problem when I got my sc&c upper a-arms, they came in drilled for second gen ball joints and the holes didn't line up. Rather than wait for a new set, I "adjusted" the holes. They been fine, that nose of the joint is a very snug fit in the hole.

I found out later from SC&C that they had sent the wrong arms.

Thanks Jim. Any way to tell for sure if the Ball joints are for a second Gen. Any other differences that the hole pattern? I ordered the ball joints from Summit. I might take the a-arm up to the local parts store and see if they are the wrong joints.

I don't have any other detail's Murph, other than that Mark @ SC&C said most people who use his arms use ball joints (these could be the tall ones from Howe) made for a second gen, and thats why my arms came thru wrong. I was ina hurry as always, and made em fit rather than wait for different parts.

Yeah. I managed to get them on last night regardless. When I found out that I put the bolts in the wrong direction (Head on top instead of head up from the bottom) I decided that if I was taking the bolts out to turn them around maybe I would try to find the right ball joints. I think the hole spacing was tighter on the a-arm than the ball joint spacing.

OK. The jury is in. I stopped by Car Quest today. They carry Moog parts but they are boxed under the Car Quest name brand. I asked them for upper ball joints for my car and they came out with Car Quest part number K5108. Opened the box (I brought my a-arm with) and tried the ball joint and the bolt pattern was perfect. The interesting thing is that is was a Moog K5108 part number with the same 60097F cast into it. There were slight differences, like the Moog boxed part has 2 round holes and 2 oblong holes. The Car Quest boxed parts had 4 round holes.

Now to see if Summit will take back ball joints that I bought about a year ago and have been installed. What are the odds?

Hope this helps others during their searches.
