After installing the weather stripping for the trunk of my 69 camaro the trunk does not close all the way. My first thought is to trim the weather stripping. Does anyone have any experieince or tips on how to properly install this?

You probably used the Softseal brand of weather stripping which is not soft. I had the same problem and sent it back for a refund. I replaced it with product from these guys and it solved the problem. http://www.clestersauto.com/camaro&.htm
Other people on this forum like the Metro brand

Like Andrew said, some brands have more issues than others. It may compress over the next week or so. Some guys have put weight on the lid to speed the smooshing. I used Metro and had no issue.

Do you have it on the right way?

Could be the brand of weatherstripping or just the fact that the ws is fresh and needs to be compacted by the lid. I have NOS and it takes awhile for the stripping to get memory.

Can you post a pic of your trunk seal? I've seen it installed backwards and cause the same issue...

I bought a GM NOS seal and tried for 2 months to train it by pressing on the lid with more pressure every night. I got it within a i/4" of closing but that was it. Finally I ordered a Metro seal through Autozone installed it and the lid closed perfectly the first time.

Metro all the way. I used another brand and couldn't close the trunk either. Closes gear with the Metro trunk weatherstrip. Take a good look at the cross sectional dimensions there are HUGE differences and thicker doesn't mean it's better, it usually means your trunk won't close when done.

Vasoline, silicone and or teflon lubricant will also help, but Metro brand works best:D:hurray:

I like Metro a lot. Had the same issue with a recent car that has repo 1/4s, and think that the W/S channel may be a little too high on them. Metro has always been great on GM-quarter cars Ive built.

Trunk latch adjustment, and a little "persuasion" with a 2x4 and a hammer on the WS channel has it closing and sealing great now :thumbsup:
