View Full Version : Everyone needs to read this
67pat Sep 30th, 07, 10:08 AM In the sunday addition of the Tennessean(main news paper for Nashville and middle TN.) Being a general contractor I always look in the classifieds for home sales. At the end is the section for auctions of all kinds...estate,taxation,divorce etc etc etc.Anyway there is an estate sale being held at 357 River st in Hartville TN on Sat Oct 6 at 10 a.m. listed in this sale in small print which I hope alot of people dont see is this and its a direct quote from the ad... (4) 1969 Camaros(disassembled) including (1) unverified undocumented Yenko with title,BE code rear axle,427CI Yenco clone,1 nice rust free body,2 bodies(rusty),and most parts to assemble all 4 vehicles. This kind of sucks because I will be in Talledega next weekend(the 6th)...we been to every talladega race for the past 25 years with about 15 people so we are locked into plans and deposits etc so not likely I can go but maybe one of my Camaro brethren her can take advantage of this and get a 69 on the cheap or a deal anyway.I would really like to know about this after its done if one of you guys go...but if you pick up the deal of the century just respond back..."you really dont wanta know"
deerhunter Sep 30th, 07, 11:35 AM I am surprised that even made the paper. Surely he/she has friends and neighbors that know about cars. To bad I would have to travel halfway across the nation to be there.
DjD Sep 30th, 07, 11:59 AM Estate sales don't always mean getting a good price and don't always mean the descriptions are correct. Typically there is little time for verification so you need to know what you are looking at.
I remember flying to San Diego to look at this guys '69 pace car he got it at an estate sale. It was a pace car alright, had shiny paint and a decent interior but that's where it stopped. The engine vin matched but the block used a bolt on oil filter and had a road draft tube in it. Everything else was downhill from there. The guy paid good money and was stunned when I gave him my notes after going over his car. I offered him half what he paid, he countered with paying my flight home and a beer...
Just be careful and good luck maybe it's the pot of gold we are all looking for...

They ad is actually for the 2.3 acres and the house yada yada yada...like I said the desciption is way down in small print in a description with a bunch of other stuff, including a lexus and el camino etc
hokiez28 Sep 30th, 07, 11:54 PM Could That Be Hartsville Tn ?
Brentmc Oct 1st, 07, 05:05 AM It would great if someone got a great deal--especially on the possible Yenko.
That said, you have think that someone "in-the-know" is already involved with marketing these cars--they are quoting "BE Rear"--not something everyone is aware of with these. They at least THINK they have a possible goldmine car...BJ will be the first place they look for prices. I think I'd call the estate sale company if possible and try to get more details on the sale in general and then off-handedly ask what that "Yenko Camaro thing" is and gather details on what they think they have...
Just my half cent....
Is their a website listing for the auction or auction site?
Thanks

Gambitt Oct 1st, 07, 02:22 PM That's only a couple of hours from where I live, but I doubt it would be worth the drive down there.
Bill Howell Oct 1st, 07, 07:33 PM I talked with the auctioneer today. As she put it, the Yenko "CLONE" paperwork is at the bank. I asked her to give me the vin number, and she said she would call back tomorrow morning, but the VIN was laying on the floorboard. Also they are FAXING pictures, not emailing them. GEEZ, I guess there is no internet in Hartsville. I will be there this weekend anyway, just 200 miles. I will be sure and get pictures. All cars are in pieces, nothing put together. Better bring a big trailer if you intend to buy anything.
Mr. Super Sport Oct 1st, 07, 08:04 PM I also saw this add in the Tennessean newspaper and laughed.
If it's true then the jokes on me but I think the Yenko name is thrown around so much now. Was listening to a guy talking to his buddy at a carshow
Saturday looking at a Yenko Camaro Clone. He says to his buddy "that Yenko is one of those special Camaros built in Japan!" I about bit my tounge off
trying not to correct him. Also heard over the winter at a indoor car show that this guy knows of a Yenko in Mid Tennesse that is owned by a little old lady who ordered the car from the Nashville Yenko dealership in '69. He said he will get it someday for a grand or two - oh and the car is mint condition.
Rocvert Oct 2nd, 07, 06:18 AM Well if anyone goes, I am sure everyone will want to see some pics !!
Unreal Oct 2nd, 07, 10:44 AM After church, I was chatting with the little old lady in middle Tennessee, and she mentioned something about a BE rear, MN motor, and 13/16" sway bar. I'm planning to beat her out of it. :)
Bill Howell Oct 5th, 07, 06:24 PM I went to the preview today, two of the "cars" are rotted bodies with no vin tags. I would not drag them home if they gave them to me. One of the others is a early vin number that it looks like the guy was planning a Yenko Clone build. He has gathered some parts, the dash(included vin) has been cut out of this one too, but it is laying in the floorboard. Several cool parts but they are grouping different parts and selling them separately. Then if someone wants to, it will be regrouped as a whole for 5% more and rebid. About all that interest me is the subframe with the engine/tranny. There is also a 69 on a cart in the garage and 10 zillion parts and pieces thrown around it that will be sold as a group. It is an automatic, no engine, 10 bolt rearend, but hard to tell if it all was on the car or just a hogpog of parts. Then there are several other groupings of parts that will be sold, but honestly hard to say if any of it is worth anything except for someone trying to restore an original 307 car.:boring:
I have pictures, but for some reason can not get my computer to read the card, so I will not get them posted until I can get back home and use my wife's computer.
deerhunter Oct 5th, 07, 08:09 PM Thank you for the feedback.
Bill Howell Oct 6th, 07, 03:59 PM Just got home, will download pictures later tonight.
Just FYI here are the highlights of the sale
1. Yenko clone is in pieces and was sold that way to start with. They had 14 lots. a. body (3300) b. subframe/with motor and tranny (7000) c. BE rearend (1450) d. steering column, rosewood wheel, ass parts (350) e wiring harness (350) f. stainless (400) g. dash parts (500) and so forth.
After all lots were bid the auctioneer added up the lots and the total plus 5% added meant to group all parts someone had to bid $15,800. Someone did and the "car" ended up selling for $22K. Wait till I post the pictures.
Then there was an X44 body in about a zillion pieces. Most everything was there except a motor ( it was in a elcamino that sold later for $2600) and the glass, but trust me, not two pieces were attached. I ran the bid on it to $12.5K and it sold for $13.5K
Next was a 12 bolt rear, sold for $1250. Good/bad, who knows. no brakes just a housing with posi and axles.
Five used doors (two decent and three junk) sold for $450
Two bolt main 454, looked like it had just come out of a junkyard sold for $1600.
Still was many lots of assorted parts, but I left. The best deal of the day was the house and garage. 3500 square ft/ 4.4 acres sold for $144K.
Pics of the house and land! :-D (indeed, the best deal of the day)
Mr. Super Sport Oct 6th, 07, 06:36 PM What a joke and a waste of time. I feel sorry for anyone who went.
Gotta love the ad "Possible Rare Yenko!!"
deerhunter Oct 6th, 07, 08:04 PM Wow! $22000 for parts?!?!?! That means my 68 350, 4 speed, 3.73 posi, now stripped to bare metal and with the right rear quarter in the process of replacement should get me...oh...say...$50,000+ if I take it out there and auction it off! And mine has new interior! Those people must have one huge pile of money they want to part with! I can't wait to see those pictures. Was there a Barret/Jackson sign anywhere?
