Does the 4x6 speaker mount to the metal hole on the body or is it secured to the speaker grille and kick panel itself? I purchased a pair of after market 4x6 speakers but they won't mount flush on the hole on the inner body. I have more request, can somebody post a pic of the kick panel cut out with measurements to accommodate a factory kick panel speaker grille. Thanks in advance.

I can answer part of your request, the speaker and grill is attached to the kick panel itself. There are 4 clip nuts that slid onto the edge of the hole that they screw to. You have to get the speaker hole and screw holes in the right place or the aftermarket speaker magnet will hit the metal. Also if the screw holes are not in the right place the screws will hit the metal and push the panel out when tightening them...

Here's my install of front 4x6 kick panel speakers in a 68 non a/c vert: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=71510&highlight=speaker
Note that I have never so much as seen how the factory did it. But I did use repro factory grilles.

That's what I thought. but wanted to make sure. My convertible has them but unfortunately, its in storage out of state right now. I'm afraid to cut holes in the wrong places on these new repro panels. I noticed that there isn't much room for error. Hopefully somebody on this sight has the exact measurements for the cutout.
