If the spindle is not gouged where the bearing sits on the spindle then get another bearing and make sure EVERYTHING is clean. Use some thing like Brake Clean as a cleaner. Use new clean grease, Make sure everything is clean before the grease is applied. Some people and shops, cut corners and do not CLEAN the components. Trust me! I witnessed it.
If the spindle has minor gouges you may be able to buff it out with some say, 1" wide 400 or 600 grit sanding cloth to remove any imperfections.

Fred, the spindle type you need was used on many GM cars.
A local wrecking yard should be able to find one from the following list of cars.
Here is the list - (directly from David's web site):
Apollo 73-74
Buick Special 69-72
Camaro 69
Chevelle 69-72
El Camino 71-72
Firebird 69
Grand Prix 69
Grand Prix 70-72
Monte Carlo 70-72
Nova 69-74
Olds F85 69-72
Omega 73-74
Sprint (gmc's 'el camino') 71-72
Tempest 69-72
Ventura II 71-74
'They must be disc brake equipped of course.'

This list and, all the other great info on disc swaps, can be found at - http://www.pozziracing.com/brakes.htm#Converting_Drums_to_Discs

You are correct, if there is a groove worn in the spindle hub itself, it will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps
