Original plan replace floor pan fix a few odds and ends Big brakes and wheels Suspension upgrade and be ready to roll for next spring.

New plan Its gotta come completely apart. ....
Upon removing the inner seat mount in preparation for the new Left floor pan and rocker I found a few disturbing things.

1) when I removed the bolt that goes through the sub frame and into the seat a large piece of steal came with it. The piece was a make sift repair for a rotted front subframe.

2) A previous repair to the rear inner rocker which included a piece of 1" square tube may also be holding in part of the spring perch.

So I will soon be thrashing on a full out disassembly and change of plan.
Man hope this turns out OK. Little bit intimidated/freaked.

Oh man!! I think that I had possibly the exact same post last winter.. kind of funny in a sad way. Fear not camaro brethren, the reguvination process for these babies isn't too bad just takes time and dinero.

These quick upgrades tend to grow into larger projects upon disassembly...

I just finished up a '69 vert RS for a friend. It started out with a budget of $5000 for paint. As we got into it, the floor was bad, both front fenders were poor and had to be replace, both outer rear wheel wells and both quarters were replaced, trunk floor extensions, new fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, Magnum 500 wheels with new tires, all new wheel well trim, emblems, carpeting, dash, wood steering wheel, spoiler, etc, etc. He now is at about $26000 and still plans on putting a new top on it. He thinks its great. It is NOT a numbers matching car and was appraised by the insurance company at $41,200. He looks at it as an investment. I guess the end result justifys the expense. Good luck on your rebuild.

May want to go with one piece floor. It includes the spring mounts and subframe cage nuts.

Clear evidence why Reto shops have trouble writting a solid bid.

If it were easy, everyone would drive a hot rod. Keep your head up.

Dont let it get ya down. I have been through what you are going through and I didnt know much about sheetmetal replacement and welding. I do now. You are not alone and your doing it the right way. This group has helped me through alot and we all will do the same for you.

Man, why is it i see so many hacked up trans tunnels?
I think mine still hold the record for largest hole hacked though.
My trans tunnel hack job measured 21" long, and went from the drivers side floor to the middle of the passenger side of tunnel.

Hang in there man, i've made amazing progress considering the backet case i got.

I feel your pain right now! I have gotten so far into mine I truly have reached the point of no return. Everytime I get a little ahead I get set back even further the next weekend. I came into to research a problem with my new frame rails not measuring the same as the factory rails and I am having thoughts of just trashing the car and looking for another but the nine grand I spent on this one keeps me from losing my cool...I hope!

YOUR NOT ALONE BY NO MEANS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!

Where did you get the outside exhaust - I've always like them and they look good on your car.

I started out going for a paint job. This week the car goes for media blasting after complete disassembly. Things discovered?...Rotted cowl, rotted floor pans that had been glassed over, some rot in the rear windshield channel, car had been smacked on the left quarter hard, causing some bending in the supports behind the rear seat.
As soon as it gets back, I'll finish the list of sheet metal that needs to be ordered. Oddly enough, the Classic Industries catalog arrived last week...good timing.
So likewise, what was optimistically going to be a $4-5k paint job has turned into a complete frame-off, but like was mentioned above, I'm not that upset. When it's done, it'll be done right, and nothing will be left behind so I won't be thinking "Gee...while I had it all apart...I sure wish I'd done ....whatever..."

Good luck on your project, it seems that a good majority of projects start out as just that.. A paint job, and end up getting everything done on them..
