I drove to a car show tonight and walked around then came back to my car and noticed asome fuel dripping from the tank. This is the first time this has happened and I just topped off the tank. I am wondering if the tank is supposed to be vented or not and where that vent might be so i can check to see if it is clogged.

You said you just topped off the tank. Perhaps you topped it off too much and the fuel expanded in the heat of the day?

Gas is kept pretty cool in the underground tank

No, I did not over fill it, because as soon as I unscrewed the cap the pressure went away and the drip stopped.

I had replaced the filler neck earlier in the year. The cap was so snug that it did not allow the pressure to escape. The old neck was loose and it seems that the old owner bent the tabs to make it fit tighter. I did not have this problem last year, so all I did was bend the tabs back a little and we'll see what happens tonight when I take it out. It does fit a lot better now and doesn't tear up your hand when you put it on or take it off.

I would think that one would want the fuel tank to be pressurized. Doesn't it keep the fuel from evaporating??

Take a look at your gas cap. I think they had a pressure relief valve inside them that retains about 6 or 7 psi in the tank to prevent excess vapor from escaping.

Also check the muffler if you have a stock location cross flow type. If they leak the hot exhaust gasses can heat up the fuel tank.
I pulled into my driveway one day and heard the fuel in my tank boiling!
I had an exhaust leak and the heat blew back on the tank. It was low on fuel and heated up.

I agree David, I also heard boiling the last time I drove it. I will look for leak on exhaust, but you would think that the cap would still slowly bleed off the pressure.
