I picked up the original Quadrajet carb. for
my '69 LM1 350 and am wondering how big a deal it is to replace the Holley that came with the car when I bought it with the Rochester on an Edelbrock performer intake. Is this worth it? I want to maintain somewhat of an original look with the correct fuel line setup, throttle linkage, etc. I do, however want to run an open element air cleaner. Can I also set up the original choke? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Edelbrock Performer is flanged for both square fanged (holley), and spreadbore (Q-jet) so the swap should pose no problems there. As for performance it should make no difference if they are both optomized for the car. If you wanted to send your carb out to get rebuilt and dialed it JET as in JET performance chips does them.

if your looking to find out which carb is better, you'll probably get a toss up. as for which is easier to work on, i'd go with a holley. i was told by a mechanic that there is up to 50 internal adjustments in a quadrajet. i don't know, i always used holleys. but people do say that the edelbrock setups are very good and dependable. the intake is a good one. the carb switch is easy. you might however have to do some mods to the fuel line to make it fit a holley if you switch. other then that, it ought to be a easy switch if you decide to do so.

You should be able to bolt the Qjet onto the Performer by using the other mounting holes for the studs. You could paint the intake orange and most people won't notice it isn't original. You should have no problem using the original choke, but you may need to get a longer choke rod due to the taller manifold. The open element air filter will work fine also. I've done exactly what you're trying to do and it worked great.
