: Rear Leaf Spring Bushing Size vs. Back eye of Rear Leaf Size ... Is this correct?

Hi Guys,

I was working on the rear suspension this weekend and ran into an issue with the Rear Leafs and the the bushings ...

I'm using caltracs and their split monoleafs ... The front of the leaf has caltrac's solid bushing installed and for the rear eye of the leaf I'm planning to install poly bushings ...

Well, I went to install the poly bushings when I noticed the diameter of the poly bushings is considerably greater than the rear eye diameter of the leaf ...

Poly Bushing = 1 1/2" Diameter and the Eye opening = 1 1/8" Diameter ...

Is this correct? I'll have one heck of a time pressing that in if so ... or ... do I need a different bushing?

Thanks,
TIM

Tim, I can't answer your question, but since I may be using lowering rear leafs down the road, I've been reading some threads here. It seems that it's pretty common for the bushings to be a bear to get in. As far as 1/8" difference...I don't know. But it seems the consensus is that you use the shackles/bolts to help press them in, being careful not to "spread" the bushings wider while doing it. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

If everything is right, the rear bushings halves, both in the spring and in the frame, should slip right in. I'd say you need different bushings. Call Calvert, as it's their springs, and ask them.

I agree with Jim. 3/8 of an inch is too much of a difference to be the correct bushing.

Oh shoot, I can't add. Yeah, 3/8", not 1/8" as I first read it. That's a huge difference.

I used Caltracs and Split monos in my Nova and the poly bushings were pressed into the spring when I got them. I had to install Energy Suspension bushings in the frame rails, they went in snug but I have to agree with the other poster's 3/8 of an inch is a country mile in my book.:noway:

Just wanted to update and let everyone know that Calvert Racing gladly shipped out the appropriate sized leaf spring rear eye bushings ... No issues whatsoever, John even shipped them out across the country in 2 days to ensure they would be here for the weekend ...

Calvert Racing has always been great to work with and never seem to be annoyed with any of my questions or issues ...

Thumbs Up!
