: Order of panel replacement

I know that on my basket-case 67, I need to replace the trunk, floorpans, and both rear quarters. What order do all these need to happen in? I'm thinking that I need to put in some subframe connectors before I start chopping the rest of this up.. but what next after that?

Start with a better car.........I'm not making a joke, just hoping you learn something from some of us that have made the same mistake. Unless this is a super rare car like a z-28 or a SS 396/375 or has some real sentimental value, you are getting ready to fall into a deep deep money pit.

DerekF,

Is this a convertible and do you plan on doing all the sheet metal replacement yourself because if not it can get VERY VERY expensive like 70RS says!!!

By the way, look at Bench racing post re: Arlington Swap meet this weekend. Since you are down here in our area, firewheelclassics.com (http://firewheelclassics.com) would be an excellent source for parts.

I know I should be junking this one and getting one in better shape.. but I can get the wife to agree to the 400$ price tag on this one (front susp completely rebuilt, lots of patch panels and wilwood disk brake setup (new)) included and would not be able to talk her into something any more expensive. It took me 8 months to talk her into this one. Guess she learned her lesson when I did my 69 El Camino :)

But no, it's not a convertible or anything special like that. It's just a beater that I get to weld and grind on; and I can do whatever I want to it (will never be a numbers matching car.. will be the Camaro I wanted but GM never made) and since the alternative from the car's point of view is the crusher, noone can really fault me for using whatever parts I end up with - NOS, repro, used, or not even correct for the car.

Firewheel has it's good points - it's close to my mom's house, and she has a little too much money - sometimes I can convince her to part with some :) , but Southwestern Classics is closer to me.

Either way, I'll be at the meet this weekend, looking for a trunk pan and a beat-up front clip (don't mind welding in new metal, don't mind some rust, don't mind creases, so long as I think I can fix). I'm just going to have fun with this one.

The El Camino stopped being fun to work on when it became mandatory get-me-to-work daily transportation... so possibly this one needing as much work as it does will be a bonus - more fun for the dollar! :)

Sounds like a perfect car to learn on, and then when the one you really want comes by, youll have the talent to fix it, you can give the wife the old one and you get the new one and every body is happy.
