Ive been thru my camaro factory assembly manual and searched here, but cant seem to find what those access holes in the trunk floor are for, they are slightly rusted with rubber gasket under the steel plate. They sit directly below the hinges and on the passenger side I can see the fuel lines down under it but those access from underneath too.
Once sanding and coating with POR, do they serve a purpose or should they be tacked down so they dont move or breath moisture back inside?
Thanks in advance for hints

i think those are the drain holes you are talking about.I guess they are there if you ever got a lot of water in the trunk. http://www.camaros.net/forum/confused.gif

There are a couple on the floor in front of each front seat also. I think the plates are held in with regular 3M seam sealer. At least that's what it looks like.

Click, when I reworked the trunk on the 67 I used POR15 to paint it.Painted over the two openings and then the backs of each plate.Placed the plates over the openings and let dry.Seems to have sealed pretty good. I than painted over the trunk with splatter paint and the plates are not that noticeable.Let me know if you have any questions.

Those holes were for drainage during production. The bodies were dipped in a vat after being welded up and those holes were for the puddles that would have otherwise formed as the body shell was lifted out. They are in the floor pans as well as the trunk. The plugs were added after the shell dried off. You can weld them shut or just caulk them back down. Good for drainage, but not put there for anything after production.

Well, my brother and I used to fill the trunk well of my 64 Impala up with ice and beer. We would remove one of the plates so the water would drain. At the time, we weren't too worried about our car being a classic.

now thats funny!,

A friend of mine Caulked up his truck tailgate and filled it with water, had a nice pool, or "warm tub" in the summertime..

it was really fun untill he decided to drive around with it filled and took a corner a little too hard and a few people went surfing.. but no one was hurt, but we laughed for about 2 hours.
